Funky Chicken Decoy?!?!?!

Post by jasshp »

D2D0E9BA-8FAD-4ABC-ADA7-69CCA9EC0162.png
I received a “Funky Chicken” decoy for Christmas from a family member. Is this a serious decoy to use or just a gimmick? Anyone have any experiences with it?

Yes it’s a decoy. I added a pic to my post above. It looks kind of ridiculous but strangely enough might work. I dunno though.

It works... turkeys are about colors. Seeing that red head will fire a gobbler up. Even a Jake, being so small it’s less threatening. They work, I’ve wanted one. Friend has hunted with one successfully multiple time.

One of my hunting buddies put a red sock on a goose decoy (before we hunted together) sucked a Tom right in with that.

I’d rock it. If a bird is going to dance with a decoy it will dance with a funky chicken, lease threatening decoy out there.

It’s a Michael Waddell pimped gimmick. I’ve heard people say they work. But then, so do: giant umbrellas with a picture of a turkey, blinds that look like cows, wearing whatever you’d like and crawling with a fan held in one hand, etc. I’ve heard people tell of successfully decoying turkeys using a black 5 gallon bucket with a palmetto branch for a “fan” when actual decoys were illegal in Alabama.

If you’re into decoys and you’re not self conscious about what they look like, a turkey will eventually run up to it.

It has worked for me several times. I have never witness two toms beat on a decoy the way the beat on the funky chicken. It is worth carrying.

ive had one work for me. Birds at my lease are extremely decoy shy....but the small funky chicken did the trick. Plus it fits in an avian x bag with your hen of choice for easy carry.

I used to run one and killed 2 long beards over it before my dog got hold of it. Seemed to work fine for me. The 2 long beards beat the crap out of it

I'll bet if used in combination with a Squealin' Hen, turkeys would come running from miles around...

If you have a couple probably be effective as a strutter. I need to modify a bit. Posture think posture

on private land we often use a full strut jake and a funky plus a hen. myself and my hunting buddy took four total last season. two of the four noticed the decoys and immediately went to Funky. would never consider either decoy on public land. the season prior i had a group of ten jakes beat the crap out of Funky. fun to watch. hens seem to totally ignore. good luck.
my hunting buddy with his bird. notice who is in the right side of the picture. the bird ran passed the full strut jake before almost reaching Funky. full strut jake not in picture.

One more picture just for fun. From the 2018 season. Bird where he dropped. Funky and a hen all the decoys used. Taken at close range with a Knight TK2000 muzzleloader using 2 1/2oz of shot. If you can stand the recoil the Knight will drop them fast. A non-flopper.

It has worked great for myself and many of my friends. Brought in 4 different toms on first day of use. Give it a try.
