Nikon is Exiting the Rifle Scope Business
The Truth about Guns
by Dan Zimmerman
Nov 19, 2019

One of our intrepid readers who’s in the retail end of the gun business told us of notification he received from one of his distributors. They were letting him know that Nikon will be exiting the rifle scope business and that once current inventory is gone, it’s gone.

TTAG spoke to Nikon’s advertising agency who confirmed the news. We’re told that this is a business decision Nikon has made based on their position in the highly competitive optics market.

Nikon isn’t getting out of the outdoor optics business, though. The good news is they will continue to produce their excellent spotting scopes, rangefinders and binoculars.

In the mean time, there are a number of good deals on Nikon rifle scopes out there as sellers reduce their inventories. Get ’em while you still can.

Ok and I'm just flying by seat of pants from memory. Nikon was good when they had pro staff, buckmaster, monarch, monarch gold.

Then they started putting x scope, 1,2,3 with each confusing buyers

I will say they're monarch binos are garbage. Five of us bought them, everyone had broken eyepieces year one.

I'll never buy anything other than vortex as long as they keep on keeping on.My dash binos are 12x42 crossfire they'll blow my 12x monarchs away

I've had several Nikon scopes and they were great, but like Tom mentioned, they were the Prostaff model and I think my son is still using his. I have Vortex binos and love them. I put a Vortex Diamondback 4x12 on my Tikka and for some reason, I couldn't feel the love. I'm not sure what the problem was, but I ended up taking it off and putting a Leupold on it. Anyway, Nikon has been good for me and my boy.

Just bought the 10x42 Burris Signature HD binos last week, and I'm very impressed with the weight, design, and quality of the glass.
