870 16ga compact found!

Post by Hoobilly »

Have been Looking for a rare 16ga compact 870 for 10+ months

Finally found one. Hoping to get it picked up this afternoon evening. 4-5hr total driving time.

But I really want it.. hasn’t been shot much at all. Only 1,400 of these made. Can’t wait to get it and turn it into a turkey killing machine.

That is awesome. Didn't know that was even a thing. I'd love to have a 16ga to play with

Hopefully these pictures will turn out ok. Gun is heavier feeling than my Ithaca 37 12ga. Due to this is actually a 12ga receiver with a 16ga barrel etc.

As heavy as it is, there won’t be any recoil lol

That’s the same gun that brought me to handloading, TSS and Gobbler Nation back in 2013! Hal helped me build a 1 7/8 oz load and William at Sumtoy built his first 16ga turkey choke for it.

I killed birds with it in ‘13, ‘14 and ‘16. Been 5 years since I shot it, this post reminded me. Took birds in SC, FL, WY, TX, MT and ME with it!

Right on Jason! I ordered a Magpul stock for it. I might just pattern this and sell it. Way more valuable right now like it is than if I take it and hunt it.

If I decide to keep it and make it a bonafide turkey gun them I imagine a meadowcreekmounts with a FF3 will help me.

I liked the Remington ShurShot back then. I had William Lambert drill it, tap it and put a Picatinny rail on it. I installed a Timney trigger, had William’s choke in it (I think it’s .599). I only had an EOTech on it but I will switch that up before I shoot it again. I think 2021 will be a good year to break it out again.

I had one and loved it. Sold it to a fellow board member down in SC. He tricked it out....

I figured a 600-610 would be about perfect with tss

I’m partial to Ithaca’s. Might look for a 16ga and convert it and sell this one to a 870 purist collector lol

Congrats on your find! I have a black syn 870 Express (non Youth) in 16 ga w/28" barrel. Have searched for a 23" version for some time with no luck. May just end up having the barrel cut.

I think I would want 21”.

From what I’ve seen on pricing for the compact, you would be saving money

I'm not a purist but I think it would be sweet to have and hunt with. Shurshot stock, dipped in original bottomland with a IC choke and vortex red dot would be sweet

Unfortunately Indiancreek doesn’t make one for it Talked to Stuart today and he would make me one over the summer if I keep it. I thought about the Shurshot and instead of searching for it I went straight to Magpul and ordered this..

I have one of those as well. My buddy's son has used it the last 2 years for turkey and took his first buck with it this year.

That’s pretty cool. Never used a 16 for deer before
