20g choke for tss\steel

Hi just bought a Browning gold 20g and which is the prefered choke for tss and steel. it has a 27" barrel .
I know different people will say different chokes will pattern better for them but im just want the most used choke .thanks you in advance.

Can’t speak for steel, but in my guns, TSS has patterned best with anything from a .562 to a .575. Depends on how hot a core you want at 40. The .575 Jebs I have in my 26” barrel is even and huntable both near and far. Puts 280+ of the Federal TSS #9s in a 10” at 40yds. The .562 Sumtoy is equally even and only slightly more dense with 290+ at 40.

The Browning Gold Hunter takes an Invector Plus choke tube which is designed for back-bored barrels. For a back-bored barrel I would look at a .575 or .580 for TSS. Depending on the steel shot size utilized and intended species, I wouldn't evaluate anything less than .600.

Go online and look at the Boss copper-plated bismuth 20 gauge loads, 1 1/8 oz @ 1,350 fps. The straight 4's and 3/5 loads both have @ 175 pellets and have gotten good reviews. For ducks and geese I would check out the Trulock or Carlson's, Extended, non-ported, Improved Modified @ $45. The ported chokes may slightly reduce recoil, but the increase in the db's are not worth it, especially for your hunting companions hearing/ well-being.

Improved cylinder is as tight as I would go for geese if you want a chance to hit them on the wing.

Is .575 full or extra full , I have ordered a Extended Teague 1/4 Imp cyl choke, in Stainless steel, Till i can get either a Jebbs choke ?

For an Invector Plus a choke of .595 is considered x-full and .605 is Improved Modified. A constriction of.650-.685 are Turkey chokes. Go onto the Carlson's web page @ choketube.com or George Trulocks @ trulocktubes.com to educate yourself on choke constrictions for your particular gun. I highly recommend both manufacturers.

For shooting steel shot out of my invector plus 20 gauges I like a light modified, manufacturer doesn't much matter. Carlson's, trulock, briley, kicks etc... But for steel 2,3,4's it usually works out well with some time at the pattern board.

This. I'm primarily a waterfowl/upland bird guy. Not a turkey guy. Improved Modified is an all around solid choice that handles all of the shot materials well. I lean toward Carlson chokes.

I started hunting duck and geese over 50 years ago while in high school and hopefully have gained a little insight. IMO, if you're a good wing shot you can do a few things which will markedly improve your success in knocking down/killing birds: 1) shoot a tight choked gun, whether a fixed choke or choke tube 2) shoot the largest size shot which patterns well in a given shotgun/choke combination 3) pattern your gun/choke/shell combinations 4) practice your wing shooting, especially at both close and extreme ranges 5) spend your evenings practice mounting your gun w/ the clothing you will wear in the field to develop the muscle memory to properly align your gun, shoulder and head 6) once the gun is mounted and you're swinging on the bird "Slow Down" visualize and ID the species and sex 6) shoot the best shells which you can afford, the shells will be one of the least expensive components of your hunt, but one of the most important. As a duck hunter, one of the best things which happened to me was the FWS implementation of the "point system" which, in essence, made me slow down and ID ducks.

To the OP, do you reload?
I like to load HW15 #7 and #6 for waterfowl in the 20 gauge. I shoot #7 for everything over decoys with no problems. I do load some #6 HW15 for when we're hunting lesser Canada's and have to utilize fencrows for cover. Around where I'm at they won't decoy within 30 yards of fence/tree rows.

1oz is really all you need but I shoot 3/4 oz quite often. I shoot my factory improved cylinder as it seems to pattern best with these loads and my gun (Benelli mobile chike system)

Okiefowler Yes i do reload , Mainly Steel but would like to use TSS in the 20g either straight tss or duplex steel load ?
I mainly wing shoot duck and geese , I have seen a 1 5/8oz tss load but i think that might be too expensive ? Interested in a 1oz load of HW15 for the geese .
I have also ordered a few pounds of BPX Devastator Tin-Plated Tungsten Alloy #1 too try and test .

The 15 weight shot will save you some money and for being shooting you will not be disappointed. Also there is some great 20 gauge Steel load data out there.

I mainly shoot steel 2s for large race canada geese and 3s for ducks. 2s can be hard to pattern in a 20 gauge though.

That is a great load. Easy to build, loads up well and shoots very nicely. A lot of us guys on DHC shoot that load now. I should note that most just use a 2.75in hull and don't cut it down
