Shell suggestion?

Post by wchadw »

I’m going to hunt my old fixed full 20ga. I have been told no tss.

Looking for suggestions on 2 3/4 lead loads in 6 or 7s that will pack a punch out to 35/40 yards.

Looking at golden pheasant

By whom have you been told no TSS? And why?

I wouldn’t be afraid to shoot a properly loaded tss shell in any gun capable of handling modern ammunition

Not that big of a deal. I got some Remington nitro 6s that work fine out to 35-40. I don’t shoot anything further away than that anyway

I agree that TSS would be fine. But I’m cool with you trusting your GS even if I dont :D But Remington Nitros are the worst shell ever made.

What kind of gun?

Personally I would I would go with a 1.25 oz load of #9 tss. It would be safe in your gun and would have a pattern that would kill past your limit. Should even give a good pattern at closer range in your gun.

If not then just go with your nitro or golden pheasant loads. Your pattern of the 1 ounce 7.5 load is pretty darn good even for 30 yards.

That 32 yard pattern in impressive, I’ve seen 20s shoot worse with turkey loads and turkey chokes!
