H&R Topper Part 2

Post by Hoobilly »

Got the Swampfox Kingslayer put on finally. Went with a red dot for this one. Hopefully I’ll have time this week to get it dialed in.

Nice pattern with your 9s! Mine shoots the 2oz of #7 hevi 3" through an original JH .660 superbly.

Is your trigger guard black? My trigger guard was factory dipped with the action.

Yep it’s black. May have been changed?

Bet so, as it appears your trigger was dipped just like mine, so guessing your assembly must have been upgraded at some point. My factory trigger touches off crisply, so not sure the need for an upgrade Brice.

They sure tote nicely though. Built tough. I opted for the fiber optic rifle sights so it was the perfect backup gun. Nice for fall turkey season, easy to drop in a field load for the initial break, then switch over to the hevi load.

Kick like a mule with the 3" 2oz. loads. If I wasn't sitting on a lifetime long pile of Hevi-13, I'd be inclined to pattern a 2.75" TSS load - something lighter in payload and blazing fast. Be a fun patterning project...maybe I'll go ahead and sell those hevi loads...

1-5/8 ounce of 9’s or 9.5’s is a beast.

I bet 1-5/8 oz. would be a beast - just cooking. Hmmm.....

Shot it a little today.
The MiniTwister 1-5/8 12ga with 9’s is gonna rock a gobbler this spring. Can’t wait.
The Twister 2oz needs a hair more open but this is a dirty barrel and going hunting.

1300 fps

manageable recoil

the 2oz is a lil stiffer on the shoulder. wouldn't want to shoot 3 of them in a row from this liteweight Topper

Wow - 1300 fps. That's an awesome load. Is that the same chrono with the 7.5s, 8s, and 9s?

Don’t know why 7.5’s would be any different than the 8’s or 9’s on the chrono. But we shot 8’s and some 9’s to 1300fps

Not that it matters, but my trigger guard is black also and unless mine was changed at the shop I bought it from for some reason, that was how I bought it new.

Interesting - I bought one new 20+ years ago when they were first released and the guard was camo, and bought another years later on gunbroker, and the guard was also dipped.

Probably just different runs from the factory or a fubar by the manufacturer.

Agree JSH, that would make sense. I'm unaware how long this particular original Bottomland single was in production - any one know?

They do make the coolest little weapon for big woods run and gun.

I agree. On top of that one I also have a 28ga, 20ga, 16ga and 10ga. I love them actually for small game and just general plinking. They are awesome to carry around.

I have 2 both in Bottom Land. A 12 and a 20. The 12 is a Serial Turkey Killer ! I have a .665 choke in it. It loves number 5 lead. Making the switch to TSS now.

I had the NEF version 10ga with the same camo pattern. Custom 3+ oz turkey loads hurt on both ends of that gun! Love my .410's!

Yes if done correctly. Some that don’t know will drill all the way through into the chamber and that’s a big no

I had my local gunsmith do mine
