Smokepole Turkeys

Post by Realwarrior »

Let's see those Smokepoles and the turkeys they've hammered. I've got several 12ga Muzzleloaders TK-2000, CVA-SxS, Pedersoli-SxS, and custom 12ga Flintlock. Here's a couple of Flintlock gobblers

Doc Holliday?
You a long lost relative I don't know about? LOL
That flintlock turkey you posted above is mine. It's a bird I shot in PA in 2017. I posted it a few places I think and it was a featured picture in the May 2018 PA Game News magazine

Here's a couple. They've been on here before. All TK2000. When I first decided to look for a mzl I tried to find a T/C New Englander. Never did and haven't ever seen one for sale used. TK was a good choice but I'm not sure if it isn't retired. I flinch just thinking about firing it now.

No offense intended. Brain tumor notwithstanding, I’m checking with the source of said pic. No intended “plagerism”. Will offer retraction if in error

I think your source was pulling your leg. ;)
I haven't been on the forum in ages and was on tonight....and while scrolling around I saw my picture. Funny, I don't remember posting that there? and then realized it wasn't me. LOL
No big deal , It was obviously a while ago that it was posted, I was just a little confused and figured you probably got some bad info.

Doc,

Innocent mistake!....I appreciate ya tracking it down. :thumbright:
That's a nice looking rig too, the color and style looks like a Danny Caywood built Fowler....if it is, it's probably jug choked too.
I bet it's pretty hard on turkeys.

It a Caywood and it is jugged. To the best of my recollection

What yardage do you limit your shots to? I've been thinking about trying my brother in law's H&R 12 gauge muzzleloader.

Lots of discussion out there on that, thanks. My gun had threaded chokes so sounds like it may not help but I see no harm in giving it's try.

If I may offer my experience, the gun in that photo is threaded. I had turkey choke tube in stalled. The SkyChief load from a Cylinder choke outshot the Turkey. I now shoot Cyl/Cyl SkyChief in left conventional in right. I have repeated this experience over 4 guns in 4 gauges, the SkyChief load outshot others in EVERY instance.

Thanks for the info, I'll try both. I thought I'd start experimenting with lead and then give tss a run. I've got 9s set aside for it
