[Pattern Pics] Recommended Choke - Weatherby SA-459

Post by SwampDrummin »

I just bought a weatherby Sa-459 in 12 gauge. Anyone got a recommended choke for this gun and any pattern pics? Shooting TSS #9s

I know a lot of people have the 20 but not finding too much informatio on the 12s.

Does that have invector threads like the 20ga?

Tougher question than I thought, invector but NOT the invector plus. Seems like they have jumped around with the choke threads in the SA-459 over the last few years.

For my model weatherby’s website says it uses the IMC (Integral Multi Choke) and “The IMC choke tube thread pattern is compatible with the following choke tube patterns: Browning Invector (not Plus), Mossberg Accu-Choke and Win-Choke. Suggested aftermarket choke tube manufacturers: Trulock, Carlson’s, Briley Manufacturing.”

Yep invector. I would suggest a 660 Indiancreek with TSS 9’s in the gun

Well once in a blue moon everything just goes flat smoothly. I took the ole patterning board out last night with the lead sled to try out the factory choke. After one shot to zero the shotgun at 25 yards with dove shot, I set the crosshairs on zero at a 60 yard target and then put one directly in front of it at 40 yards.

After one more boom in the night, I am happy to say that I am ready to hunt and the factory choke did exactly what I was looking for.

The specs:

Weatherby SA-459 Xgreen model 12 gauge
Factory Choke
32 degrees
2.25 oz tss #9
1205 +- fps
Total 635 in 20 inch circle, uniform distribution and only gonna get better at warmer temps roughly 300/300 split between 10/20 circles.
