Today is 2 Days After

Post by HunterGKS »

I had my bad left knee swapped out for a spare from C3PO. There was a delay, so I didn’t get into
surgery until about 13:00. They gave me a spinal block & everything, EVERYTHING, was numb from
the waist down. They also knocked me out. I was out of recovery & into my room by 16:00. One
difference I noticed right away was my appetite. After the right, I had none. I went to lunch a
week or so after & ordered a BLT, hold the bacon, lettuce, & tomato. Anyone who knows me knows
this is way out of character. I ate a full supper that evening & have eaten each meal since.

I headed home about 14:00 felling pretty good except that I hadn’t sleep well the night before due
to several reasons not the least of which was my roomie playing computer games with all the beeps
& dings. I didn’t say anything as his issues were a lot more severe than mine & I didn’t want to
appear to be a jerk. I started feeling pretty rough & took a pain pill at about 15:30 which didn’t do
much good. I ended up going to bed about 21:00 after taking 2 stronger pain killers. I did get a fair
nights sleep & felt pretty good this morning.

Day 3, I met with the therapist this morning & we went over the exercises I will do there & at home.
He was very optimistic about how things would go & my recovery. My bent knee measurement was
75 right after surgery & is already up to 99. The goal is 120 & he thinks I should be able to get there
over the next 4-6 weeks with 2-3 visits a week plus my homework.

I just finished the 2nd set of exercises & can already feel the difference. It is just mind over matter,
gritting my teeth, & doing it.

That’s good news. Follow the rehab and you will be good as new in no time, maybe even better. Probably get another 100,000 miles out of you! Good luck and I hope the progress continues at a speedy rate👍

Paying the price in rehab pain now will save you a lot more of it later on. But you've got this, you can do it again.

Thx Ronnie. I told the therapist that there was a good chance that I'll do more then they tell me.

Thx.

I did the same, George. If they said do 20. I did 40. You know when enough is enough. Some days are better than others.
Did you get a nerve block bag? Mine lasted about a week. Drugs are your friend for the first couple of weeks...

No bag but the did give me a spinal block shot b4. The only drugs I have are the pain killers & I will only use them if
the pain gets really bad. From what I have been told, for my type of surgery, the 1st day or 2 is the worst. I hoped yesterday
was as bad as it gets.

Interesting. I had a bag full of block that had a strap that hung around my neck. It had a long needle that was taped in my thigh between my crotch and my knee. I was able to crank it up a notch when needed. It lasted a week or so.

When I had the right done in 2012, I stayed in the hospital for 4 days with a morphine drip that I could administer
myself. I used 1/2 bag which they told me was pretty good as the average was 2 bags. I didn't have anything else
but pain pills & had to give myself a shot in the belly with Lovenox, blood thinner, for 10 days. Now all I have to do
is take 1 325MG aspirin in the morning & evening.

I took a 325mg at night only, for one month. The hardest part of the whole deal is wrestling those damn orthopedic compression socks on and off!

Glad you are getting along well. I've only experienced it from the sidelines but all I hear is therapy is key. Keep up the good work.

I hate those socks!! The right isn't so bad but the left is very difficult. I think I'll be on the aspirin for 6 weeks. I'll find
out on 06/10 when I see the Doc.
