Re: TSS Misfire
I'm not sure what you mean by gas seal. I'm using a tested load by shot supplier, so definitely a problem on my end. Without going into the recipe, the load uses fiocchi hulls, lil gun powder, and tuwsbl24 wads. Yes hull was dirty and barrel is dirtier than normal. I believe this is probably the sh...

Re: Electronic turkey calling
Does anyone really think that wearing camouflage or using a gun is equivalent to baiting or electronic callers, or is that just a slippery-slope fallacy aimed at justifying the “as long as its legal” mentality? Or in this case, mostly illegal. I guess you can draw your line wherever you want. But I...

Re: Turkey gun conversion cost
Any rough estimates for converting a 11-87 into a dedicated turkey gun? My gun has a cracked forend so I would buy a synthetic replacement set. The other work would be shortening the barrel and tapping a new choke, a bead blast and full dip, and tapping the receiver for a mount. The barrel is bulge...

Re: Late Season A-hole
I have run into him in Alabama and Georgia occasionally. I bet he's a skinny bird because of all the traveling he does. If I ever do kill him, I'm driving a stake through his heart and burying him on the spot If you want to kill him this year, you’ll have to drive up to TN. He’s currently living in...

Re: Dr. Michael Chamberlain - MeatEater podcast
I know the guy is an expert and all but I wondered about the dominant gobbler thing when I read it.I found it very interesting and started me thinking not always a good thing. I see several different groups of birds in areas I hunt. One or two toms with several hens. They roost together and hang ar...

Re: Bad for us good for turkey numbers?
TN didn’t limit non-res licenses. But non-res license sales actually went down. However, resident license sales went up substantially and judging by harvest numbers, a hell of a lot more people are hunting, or they are hunting more than usual.

Re: Dr. Michael Chamberlain - MeatEater podcast
What I found fascinating was his discussion about when the dominant bird is killed, the hen is immediately receptive to the next in line. His ideas of why we have a decline in the SE makes sense. For those who haven't listened, the hen chooses the gobbler with which she intends to breed through sex...

If his fan was full and his wing coverts were filled out, he hatched in 2018 or earlier.

Re: Bad for us good for turkey numbers?
The total harvest numbers in TN are almost double what they have been any other spring on record during the same timeframe. Soooo . . . No, not too good for the turkeys here. Heard 16,000 harvested as of yesterday 16,376 - In just 5 days of hunting plus the 2-day juvenile weekend. That’s more than ...

Re: Base for 870 youth 20ga.
I have a sumtoy mount and love it. But I’m not sure if he makes one compatible with the swampfox sights. The footprint is different than the more common Vortex/Burris base. I’d go with what Hoobily suggested.

Re: 2020 Lausman travel pot call
Don’t forget to sign it. Maybe you will win it! Maybe so. But if not, I’ll be buying one. It’s a sweet, sweet call. I started out hunting with only a pot call. The first gobbler I ever called in was with a K&H Ol’ Yeller. But the last few years I’ve rarely gotten my pots out of my vest. Mainly ...

I’ve used hunt stand for a couple years. Just got OnX this year. Disclaimer - I’ve just used the free version of huntstand, so I’m not certain what added benefits you get with the paid version. From what I’ve seen, hunt stand has better maps and more map layers. OnX has better property ownership dat...

What state? TN’s order requires you to stay home except for essential activities. But outdoor activities are included in the list of essential activities. So hunting and fishing is not limited.

Re: Good Weekend
So which one of them pea shooters is yours? Two fine turkey guns! The Yildiz O/U. I’ve wanted a 20 for a few years and finally settled on that one. I’ve got a few kinks left to work out with POA/POI between the two barrels, but I got it plenty serviceable for this year. Once I get it just like I wa...

Re: Good Weekend
Sunday I went with a good friend to his place. He hunted with his daughter the day before and couldn’t be very mobile, but there were 4 gobblers using a field edge all day, so that’s where we started. Not a peep. We got up at 7:30 and went searching. Second place we stopped to call we drew a gobble....

Good Weekend
Very little gobbling on the roost opening morning. I started along the edge of a hardwood ridge where several birds were roosted juvy weekend. I gave it an hour, but nothing happening so I eased down the ridge to check out some fields. First one I came to there was a strutter with two hens. Watched ...
