Re: Compact guns
I have two of the youth model 870s converted to turkey guns. I like light, short guns too. No negatives that I am aware of!

Re: Longer barrel necessary?
The shorter the better in a turkey gun. Lighter, easier to maneuver into position for the shot, short when ducking under limbs when slung, and negligible loss of velocity. I started with a 26" on an 870 12 ga. Had an 870 SPS tactical turkey with a 23". Have 2 20ga. 870s with 21" barre...

Re: Question for TSS shooters/hunters
I killed four birds this year with the .410 at 16, 32, 41, and 54 yds. The 54 was a bird in open woods and I just misjudged the range. Did the same on my second bird, those hills had 50 yards looking like 20. I only use .410 or a bow. Bow bird was 15 feet, damn fun. The 54yd bird was in WV, so hill...

Re: ATI 410 over/under turkey fowl
I have a Comp-n-Choke .385 in my ATi Calvary OU. It does well, but I sure miss my Indian Creek choke tubes. I have contemplated calling Stuart at IC and discussing what it would cost to have him make one.

Re: 301 compact ?
I have checked a couple of .410 loads over the chronograph to see the difference between a 26" barrel and an 18.5". The old rule of thumb of 5fps loss per inch of barrel is almost spot on in my comparisons. I showed 40-50 fps less velocity on the short barrel than in the 26. The patterns i...

Re: Stevens 301 stock xtra full choke?
We sighted in a friend's 301 with the factory choke this weekend with my reloaded 7/8 oz.of 9.5s, we had two that we counted. Those two had 144 and 138 in the 10" with the factory choke. It is definitely a killing pattern!

Re: ATI Calvary OU 410
I have tried the factory full and imp. mod. with very poor results. The chokes that came with the gun are so poorly finished (burs and poor threads) it didn't surprise me that they pattern so poorly.

ATI Calvary OU 410
I have this gun and want to get a turkey choke for it. I plan to shoot #9.5 tss. I called Briley and they said the chokes would need to be custom made. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start? Thanks! - Seadux

Rem 870 Super Mag Max Gobbler value?
Folks, I purchased this Remington 870 Super Mag Max Gobbler w/Knoxx recoil reducing stock NIB on Gun Broker in 2009. The gun has had a custom trigger job (all parts REM polished and REM blacked and the spring changed) and has a trigger pull of 2.5 lbs. The barrel has been honed and polished and has ...

Re: Ground Blinds suggestions
I have a Barronett Grounder 350. It is very well made and big enough for 3 people chairs and gear. If I have one complaint it is that the windows (bottoms) are very high and you need a substantial blind stool or chair to have a good 360 degree view. Your everyday camp chairs do not work very well. I...

Drill and Tap scope base for Rem. Youth model 20 ga.
Which scope base have you folks used? This will be for a LER turkey scope, no red dot and no FF. I will drill and tap the receiver, no saddle mounts.

Re: Weekend Patterning Results - Fed.Hwt #7, H-13 #6 & #7
I shot the JH .665 last year and plan to stick with it again this year due to the more even pattern in the 20" at 40. Interestingly enough the guy I hunt with who owns the 11-87 has the exact opposite situation. The JH .660 throws very even patterns across the 10" and 20" at 40 while ...

Weekend Patterning Results - Fed.Hwt #7, H-13 #6 & #7
Sometimes things just don't go as well as planned, so here is my final rundown. The 2 guns used are both Remington turkey guns an 11-87 SM and an 870 SM, 23" barrels honed, cleaned and polished with trigger jobs and scoped. The distances are taped from the approximate muzzle position of the gun...

Re: Benelli SBE 2 with trulock and feds
Welcome to my world! I have finally officially given up on Federal HWT. After shooting up the better part of the 3 boxes I bought at paper, and purchasing 3 different chokes including the one made for this load, the best pattern comes out of the rem. turkey choke that came with my turkey gun! But do...
