Re: Tristar G2 Turkey 28ga patterns
Yep, lots of manufacturers will cut corners on quality of shot to save money. This means the shot may be a little light in density and the diameter may be a little small. This also makes it look much better when guys pattern their shells as the pellet count is much higher in the shell than it should...

Yeah those aren't 8.5's......batsonbe is right on the pellet count of 1-5/8oz of 8.5's.....should be right at 500 pellets total

Re: Remington 870 Express 28ga
I got away from using lil gun. I don’t have any tested data to back it up but I had a shell tough to get out of the gun and that’s enough of a sign for me to know I needed to be shooting a different powder. H110 is all I’m using now. Same here, I tested a 1-3/8 oz load with lil gun and the pressure...

Re: Remington 870 Express 28ga
I have the exact gun, your patterns are a little better than mine but I'm shooting the choke that Briley made for it. I'm right in line with your numbers on straight 9's but I'm lower on the 8.5x9 duplex. I still hunt with the 8.5x9 and killed two birds with it this year. Love the gun

Re: They're Dropping!!
This is the ideal time to be catching coyotes as fast as possible and locating and eliminating dens. Each coyote will kill an estimated 12 fawns to feed its litter of pups. Shooting one coyote a week with a thermal scope while educating the rest is not predator control. Stay after them fellas

That is good info all, I appreciate it. Maybe I am being unrealistic with the volume I want. I can make it sound great, but its about half as loud as I would like. I can hoot without a call twice as loud, but not quite as realistic

Re: Harrison hooter Pro
How do yall get yours to not cut out when forcing a good bit of air through? I can put more air through the hoot n stick than I can the houndstooth knock off, but it will still cut out on me if I try to get loud I can cup my left hand more loosely and get some more volume but then I don't get the &q...

Re: Mossberg SA-28ga .515 Trulock 8.5x9
I shot the 8.5X9 duplex in my 28ga this year and loved it, that is what I have settled on going forward. Mine doesn't do as high of a count in the 10" as yours but has a more even 20". Briley .520

Re: ISO 28ga. patterns with 1-3/8oz laod
Here you go. A clean bore will get mine into the 250's with this choke. My buddy with an Indian creek 520 can get a little higher than that even. A 1-3/8oz load is just fine in 28ga if you are happy around the 250 mark

Re: 20 vs 28
I choose the 28ga over the 20ga simply for weight, recoil, and patterns. I shoot a 8.5x9 duplex in mine. I also shoot a fair amount of trap and there is not a gun in my arsenal I can shoot better than my 28's. They swing so freely and pattern great with light target loads. I shoot trap much better w...

Re: Neatest thing you saw while turkey hunting this year. (besides Turkeys)
The highlight of my season each year is the handicap hunt that I guide for. It is a yearly tradition in deer and turkey season. My pops always guides the deer hunt and I handle the turkeys. Seeing that smile the first time an old longbeard wakes up the woods with his gobble will never get old. We ar...

Re: What guns are you looking to buy?
That SBE3 is calling my name, as well. Did they get the POA/POI squared away? I heard they shoot high. Not sure on the 28ga, but my 20ga and 12ga SBE3 both shot anywhere from 12-18" high with field loads. Never patterned with turkey loads. Couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with them. Fin...

You know what's funny is that the fellows on this forum get along better than any other forum I'm part of. And most of them were banned on other forums. I'm known to throw gas on the fire sometimes, but you don't ever have a fire here.

Re: Vermont Turkey Trip Success
I won't argue that deerhunt. Most of the landowners you are calling aren't even from VT. Lots of owners from NY. But the local guys I dealt with are absolutely not courtesy calling on non-posted ground. While you are waiting on a call back from a landowner that lives 10 hours away they are killing t...

As far as your buddy goes, 9.5 is just a pellet count. He needs to try and duplex 8x9 or 8.5x9 Good advice!! I really am liking the 8.5x9 duplex. Gives you a little more punch and I only lost 10 pellets in the 10" circle at 40 yards coming from straight 9's. Pretty much a negligible difference...

Re: Vermont Turkey Trip Success
Congrats. You don’t leave your red dot on all the time while hunting? No sir I don’t. I used to but my fairly cheap red dot will eat through batteries fairly quickly. Inevitably I would shoulder the gun to take a shot and the dot would be dead, just my luck. Typically I turn it on a little sooner t...

Vermont Turkey Trip Success
Drove up to Vermont with a buddy on a spur of the moment trip this past weekend. We didn't have a lot of time to take off from work so we were only able to hunt 3 days. Luckily we didn't come home empty handed! I did a lot of research before going and talked to several guys here and elsewhere. Gener...

You won't be disappointed with the 28ga. I don't feel a 20ga turkey gun has any advantages over a 28ga other than turkey ammo availability. But if you roll your own or order from Hoobilly its a toss up
