Re: 410 vs 20ga youth starter gun
I agree that 1 5/8 ounce of TSS kicks too much for a kid, too much for me lol. Aren't there 1 ounce "duck loads" in 20 gauge that would be comparable to a 410 load? Or are the "duck loads too fast and still kick too much for a kid? I just think the 20 gauge is just more versatile than...

Re: Thin wall chokes
colonial choke and tools makes a thin wall choke and one that is called true size. I had a 20 ga 1100 threaded 25 years ago and ready didn't know what I had. I sent them a picture of the old choke and they said I needed the true size. Mine fit perfectly. Good luck

Re: Compact guns
Well, pulled the trigger on a compact 20 gauge 870. Little nervous with the whole rem arms thing but the things fit and finish to really good. Heads up for someone who might be looking are the synthetic stock and the wood stock seem to have a different stock shape. The wood fits me like a glove and...

Re: 20 vs 28
For a turkey gun only, I don't think it matter except you have to have two different shells. May matter if you have the wrong shells! If you're going to use it for small game or target practice I'd get a 20 gauge for the cheaper, to get ammo.

Re: .410 or 20 for kids?
I'd choose the 20 gauge. It will be a gun he or she can use forever. Can small game hunt with it, turkey hunt and even deer hunt with it. I'm old and the 410 has always been painted as a kid's gun but really is an expert's gun. I know TSS has changed the game for turkey hunting with some work with c...

I shoot the 200 SST in my encore too. Do you shoot sabotless in the encore for yourself?

Re: Smokeless Muzzleloader in the works
I've got an encore with 45/70 T/C and a savage breech plug. I know it's old school now but it's light and shoots! I've got a 700 action I inherited 12 years agon and thought about a build, but most seem to come out weighing more than a varmint rifle. If I was hunting fields out of box blinds maybe I...

Re: Deer Shotgun
I grew up in Dinwiddie, hunted Fort Picket a lot in years past. Huge base with plenty of game then and I'm sure there still is. They didn't allow dogs when I hunted there last but there are dogs running there if they cross over. I prefer to hunt thicker cover and don't feel handicapped with buckshot...

Re: Deer Shotgun
I don't where he's hunting in VA, but most of the shotgun only counties use dogs to push the deer. That being said, most use smoothbore shotguns with buckshot. If he's going to hunt with a hunt club, he should check with them first. The savage is a great slug gun only, maybe a "combo gun" ...

Re: Shotgun that wont break your face
I got a 20 ga for some weight savings but used a 12 gauge for deer (we have to use buckshot here) and turkey. Stay away from the 3.5" shells and recoil isn't bad in 12 gauge. The 12 gauge MAYBE more versatile for you? Also you can use lead if you want.

Just another idea if you're going to sell them, the contender pistol shooters would be a market for something like this.

Re: 20ga Ki-Yi pattern
On a deer size animal, would you expect pass throughs at that range with the 3’s? I know it’s probably a dumb question, but look at the source. Killed a lot of deer with lead OO and OOO size buckshot, even at 20 yards don't get a lot of pass throughs. The hide seems to catch the pellets on the offs...
