Re: Available scratchboxes.......
I was talking with a customer today who has purchased quite a few of my turkey calls, including several scratchboxes; and I mentioned a recent post I had seen where he had made a comment on another poster's topic. Out of curiosity, I asked him why he had never commented on any of my posts. He quickl...

Re: Going to Unicoi 2024.....
The camaraderie there is overwhelming in that it's probably the most enjoyable 3 days you could ask getting to play turkey calls and talk with callmakers. It's a laid back relaxed crowd. No pressure to buy anything or to go anywhere. But you will not be able to see everything or meet all the callmak...

Carved tobacco tin scratchbox.......
This one I finished up this afternoon. I kinda hate to see this one leave, but it's going to a good home in Texas. This little scratchbox and striker fits into a tobacco tin, and it sounds better than it looks. IMHO it's the perfect size. The tobacco tin fits nicely in a shirt pocket, and it's alway...

Christmas Hen Box
Something a little different.....going to SC to a good home. Back 15-20 years ago, I purchased several walnut gunstock blanks from a West Coast gunstock dealer. I decided to cut-up several of those gunstock blanks to make box calls. The walnut wood I used for this Turpin style hen box was from one o...

Going to Unicoi 2024.....
After rupturing a disc in my lower back during the summer, I haven't been able to get much callmaking done this year. I still can't stand for any length on time, and I'm still rather unsteady when I do. Fortunately, I had a few scratchboxes I already had started, so while sitting I was able to finis...

Re: On the lathe again......
Desert ironwood is one of my favorite woods for trumpet yelpers. Unfortunately, you can't find the bargains you use to could find. Now good desert ironwood is expensive.

This is an all delrin trumpet yelper I made for my son. This may become one of my favorite materials for a trumpet yelper, but turning it sure is messy.....

Re: On the lathe again......
Here's a delrin trumpet yelper I'm working on now. I have a test delrin mouthpiece and a dimensional band I use for test fitting on it now. So I need to make a more dimensionally correct mouthpiece and a ferrule for it to finish it up. Every turkey hunter who hunts trumpet yelpers always is looking ...

Re: On the lathe again......
This osage burl trumpet yelper I made today is probably the best sounding trumpet yelper I have ever made. Before I ship it off to South Carolina, I might have to make a trip to the turkey woods with it. I might should make a sound file video, too....LOL!!!

Re: What wood for box call for SE
When you make of list of callmakers that Neil Cost had a direct influence, you need to include Albert Paul. Albert Paul's box calls are as fine as any box call you will ever take into the turkey woods.

Denka should have copies at Unicoi; but if the books don't ship in time for Unicoi, he definitely will have them at Nashville. Amazon is listing the book for sale.

Re: Anyone use a CPAP?
I had nasal and sinus issues when I first started using the CPAP....didn't have the humidifier or heated hose, which I had to have. You need to make sure you're not drying out your nasal passages and the temperature settings are what you need. If you're having problems, it triggers all kinds of brai...

Re: Anyone use a CPAP?
During my difficult period, I hated the CPAP, too...swore I would never....BUT once they get you over the hump, it will be different...you will feel so much better...you will then remember what it feels like to feel NORMAL!!! Then you will appreciate the CPAP.....

Re: Anyone use a CPAP?
I had a difficult transition to using a CPAP. I finally found an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor that would and did help me...the first two EN&T doctors I went to for help were useless. One even told me I'd probably be dead before I reached 50. Not every doctor practicing Sleep Medicine should be....

Re: A little folk art.....
This Turpin style box call is made from old growth teak with a Honduras rosewood lid with woodburned pinecones with a raspy old hen sound. It's just a really nice turkey call with a folk art flavor. When you just want to keep it simple, this works.....

Re: A little folk art.....
The bottom right hen box in the first picture above is made from dalbergia granadillo with an ebony lid. Dalbergia granadillo is harder than hard maple...or at least this piece was. This isn't a wood I would choose again because of how difficult it was to work with, but it makes an exceptional hen b...

Turpin Long Boxes now for sale.....
A number of people build Turpin style box calls; but I don't recall seeing a Turpin style long box. Maybe someone else has built a Turpin style long box, and I just don't know about it....that's certainly possible. But I have, and I really like them, especially this one. I have a Cost style boatpadd...
