Re: Unicoi
Saturday was my first trip there. ALL the makers are good people and it was a pleasure to meet each of them. I am not a huge friction call user in the woods, but the craftsmanship and expertise on display was appreciated. Lots of trumpets and wing bone calls too. Special place to see all those in o...

Re: Franchi Afinity 3 20ga .575 choke
The .575 was the best of the bunch in my gun for overall psttern and less fliers. I keep hearing guys talk about pellets in their birds, but I have yet to find a single pellet in a bird ever since I switched to TSS years ago, so I'm not sure why that is, but not a factor for me so far.

Re: Franchi Afinity 3 20ga .585 choke
I wanted to try Foxtrot many times in the past several years, but I could never find it in stock when I was buying (I only buy in off season when demand should be low?). I have a ton of Apex and have had such good results with it, I've stopped trying other brands.

Re: Thinking about adding a red dot
If it was mentioned already, sorry, but if you have astigmatism, the smaller dot will be much better for you. Any red dot (not much with green for some reason?) will have a starburst look to it, but the larger, the worse it will be. Just another consideration. FF3 has been tolerable for me on that e...

Here is the best part about this choke - buy it with the Benelli branding and it is only $25 + shipping instead of $60+ from Trulock directly! https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/83022p

Re: Midland Backpacker 20ga .575 choke
It is hammerless and folds almost completely in half, and is based on an old Beretta design from what I read. I only paid $100 for it as a truck gun, then decided to have it drilled and tapped for a mount. It is a dream to carry, but comes at a cost! I would never let a kid shoot it as it is the har...

Re: Franchi Afinity 3 20ga .585 choke
Here was mine at 40 with the ported 585. I don't dislike it at all, but I did not like the 20yd baseball sized pattern. Purely personal preference, but I find it way too easy to miss the close birds with patterns that tight, even with a red dot. Sorry for hijacking your thread OP. https://i.ibb.co/...

Re: Franchi Afinity 3 20ga .585 choke
Interesting that your .585 has a hotter core than the .575 you posted. I tried the .585 ported in my Affinity and it did 287 in the 10" and 201 in the 20". The factory .593 that came with the gun did 287/231. Both looked very similar to your .585 pattern. I ended up going with a Franchi e...

Midland Backpacker 20ga .575 choke
Apex 3" 9, Trulock .575 non-ported, lasered 40 yd, no wind, 80 degrees full sun, cleaned bore between all shots. I did not do a full paper count, only the 10 ring on the pic attached. I was sighting it in with a new AT-3 red dot and this was the last shot I took with it. Very interesting that i...

Re: Ticks in the truck
Another tick trick is to use a portable ozone generator in your truck after hunting (i have not done this since I started using permethrin years ago, only because i have not seen a tick since spraying with it). Makes the truck smell like new and kills ticks at the same time! Lots of cheap ones out t...

Re: most comfortable warm weather rubber boots
I have some Tingleys with Yoder Chaps and their awesome for wading through a flooded river swamp that's over knee deep. I bought just for the purpose of getting through those types of obstacles. https://www.conkeysoutdoors.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=Eva-Knee-Boot-Tingley I'm not sure how they'd b...

Correct, only certain parts of the bolt and trigger assemblies interchange and are identical. The stock and forend are different.

Re: most comfortable warm weather rubber boots
Tingleys have been my goto for several years and probably the lightest available. Buy a size larger than normal and use good aftermarket insoles for max benefits. They are pretty much the same material as crocs.

Re: Federal 3rd degree
I actually talked to the shotshell product manager at Federal after having major issues with these and TSS loads when they first came to market. These and the early TSS rounds had the original Flitecontrol wad that had a harder/brittle plastic that would not work in ported chokes and even had breaki...

I'd never get my fat butt out of it, I'd have to roll over on my side like a turtle or something! I thought the same thing when I first saw one :) It's hard to tell in the pics, but it actually sits up a few inches higher than the gobbler loungers and easier to get in and out of (I have a bad hip, ...
