Re: Vests

I think I started with Mossy Oak Super Elite back in the early 2000s. It would carry everything and the kitchen sink but weighed about 10 lbs. After that I moved onto a lighter Ol Tom strap style minimalist vest and I wore that poor thing to tatters over about 6-7 seasons. In 2019 I bought an Alps G...

Re: most comfortable warm weather rubber boots

Check out the LaCrosse Grange boots. About as lightweight as you can get with rubber boots. Being from the deep south where the temps are warm and hunting flood plain bottomland for 95% of my season, uninsulated LaCrosse Grange are my go to boots. Now, I'm not 6'5" or 250+ lbs but I put many, ...

Re: 8.5 or 9 shot

In a 12 ga 2.25 oz or 2.5 oz load, I shoot 8.5s although I'm sure the 9s would kill a bird farther than I'll every shoot one. That gun rarely leaves the safe though. My everyday gun is a 20 ga with 1.625 oz of 9s.

Re: Before Pulling the Trigger

....and by all means don’t make your move quick violent and predatory. I think this is a key point. I hunt in the relatively thick woods of south MS and a bird rarely shows up where I'm expecting him to. If I can, I wait until the bird is behind a tree or some obstruction before making my move but ...

Re: One gun

Maxus 3.5. I haven't carried it in a few years due to my Affinity Compact 20 gauge but the Maxus is just slightly heavier, eats whatever I shove in it, and is lethal to 40+ with lead, Hevi, or TSS.

Re: Shooting the Bead

Are you shooting a choke that is really tight? Shooting a 1-5/8 oz 20 gauge load it usually prints ~275 in the 10" circle at 40 yards with the remainder of the load in the 20" circle. It's tight but not ultra tight. At this point, I'm about ready to switch to a 10 gauge with an improved c...

Re: Shooting the Bead

Thanks, guys. I was just curious. My reason for asking is, prior to 2 years ago, all I ever shot was a bead and only recall missing 1 turkey in about 10 years. I put a fastfire on my turkey gun and have missed enough birds in the last 2 years to send most men to the insane asylum. I know the problem...

Shooting the Bead

Just out of curiousity, in today's world of ultra tight chokes and TSS, how many of you guys still shoot single/double beads on your shotgun?

Check out IronHorse gun works in Loretto TN Tell Preston Vanderford I sent you Preston quoted me $50 plus tax and he would ship it back on my Stoeger 3020 stock to match the Greenleaf Mossy I'll second that. Re: What do I think

I thoroughly enjoy THP and Pinhoti Project. Their content shows real hunting and not some goobers sitting over a decoy spread in a tent big enough to sleep a football team. Like others have said, the THP boys never claim to be the best, they're just friends who enjoy hunting. Keep in mind too, they ...

Re: Which new 20?

Find a used Franchi Affinity. I picked up a compact model on Gunbroker last year for $515. Its lightweight and hasn't jammed on me yet after running a couple hundred bird loads and probably 25 turkey loads through it.

My call building materials came in yesterday so just as soon as I get a little spare time I'm going to give it a shot using the tape method. We'll see how bad they sound to start with.

Getting Started Building Mouth Calls

So if a fella wanted to try his hand at building diaphragm calls, which jig, latex, frames, etc would you recommend purchasing to learn on? I'm not wanting to get into call making for others, just for personal use. I have to run a small frame diaphragm and options are usually pretty limited so I fig...

Like others have said, it's nearly impossible to shoot the bead with the ShurShot stock. Even with rifle sights mine will still slap the snot out of your cheekbone. It's perfect for a Fastfire, red dot, or scope though.

Vest Recommendations

For the last 8 years I've been using an Ol' Tom Time and Motion Essentials vest but it has reached the end of its functional life. At the end of last season I went in a Cabela's and found that I really liked the Tactical Tat'r 2. Well, I just now got around to ordering it and it's nowhere to be foun...

Cutting and Rethreading a Barrel

Anybody know if you can have a Browing barrel cut down and rethreaded for Invector Plus chokes? I know it can be cut but wasn't sure if rethreading for Invector Plus choke would be feasible. This is a Maxus that currently accepts Invector Plus chokes but I'd like it more in the 22-23" range.

I've got a Maxus that I love. I use it for everything from 1 oz dove loads, high velocity steel duck loads, and the big 2.25 oz turkey loads. It makes 2.25 oz turkey loads manageable.

Browning Choke Help

I've got a Browning Maxus and have been running Hal's 3" 2.25 oz #8 load with an Indian Creek .665 choke through it and its been a little inconsistent. I get anywhere from 230-300 hits in the 10. Is the IC .665 too tight for that load? Anybody got any choke recommendations for a Maxus?

Gunsmith adding a cantilever mount to barrel

I've got an off the wall question for y'all. I want to take a Browning Maxus barrel and have it cut down to 22" and also have a cantilever added to the barrel so I can put a FF3 on it and just swap barrels each season when its time to hunt ducks and doves without having to loosen optic mounting...
