Reaping outlawed on SC Public lands
Reaping outlawed on SC Public lands
"On WMA lands the practice of fanning or reaping it is prohibited. Fanning/reaping is defined as hunting or stalking wild turkeys while holding or using for hunter concealment any of the following items: a tail fan, a partial or full decoy with a tail fan, or a tail fan mounted to a firearm. Tail fans include those made of real or synthetic feathers or an image or likeness of a tail fan applied to any material (Reg. 123-51). This regulation does not apply on private land." Saw the above in the eregulations on turkey hunting. Gil

While they are at it they should outlaw camo as its way more dangerous ! I vote for hunter orange during all turkey seasons and any more added regulations you can think of that for things that maybe you don't like especially maybe TSS that stuff is crazy dangerous !

Is it banned because it’s too effective or too dangerous?
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Exactly. What’s the big deal? Just holding a hyper-realistic life-size replica of a strutting male turkey in front of your face and belly crawling through a field on public land while all other hunters are actively trying to shoot male turkeys? I don’t see the problem. OBVIOUSLY less dangerous than wearing camouflage and everybody wears camouflage. This is the most over-reactive thing I’ve seen since they banned lawn darts.

Guy got a head full of shot in N.Y. this past season. Sneaking with a full size Turkey decoy, his buddy shot him !

I bet the hunter was wearing camo.
The shooter needs to work on his pattern, or get closer.
I hope the guy survived to tell about it.

I still have a set of Jarts in the storage shed complete with the yellow plastic tube circles that was the targets, I made a small circle target for the mother in law to wear like a headband, may she rest in peace, I swear it was an accident.

Well, I guess I won't spend the money on trying to patent a Kevlar full body fanning turkey helmet with bullet proof glass eye holes.

Re: Reaping outlawed on SC Public lands
First time I seen fanning work was back in the early 90s by the man who taught me alot about turkey hunting. I still feel like I did back then about it. (Its like cheating in the game) It's crazy to me to see how popular it has become in the last 5 years. I have seen some stupid stuff unsafe and inconsiderate especially on public land as of lately. The best comment I have heard from these was "I don't own a call just this decoy it's all I need". I had too just shake my head on that one and walk away.
