Trail Cam **UPDATE / REVIEW**

Post by CamoMan4025 »

Well I bit the bullet and picked up a Cuddeback CuddeLink camera on Monday at Cabela's. I've wanted to get a game cam that sends pics to your phone/laptop, but just never wanted to pay the extra money for the cell service. This camera has Verizon service, but you don't go through Verizon to set it up, you go through Cuddeback. The camera was $200 and then the plan is either $10/month or $15/month. Well, that's the cheapest plan. If you choose the $10 plan you have to pay for a full year of service. If you choose the $15 plan then you can run it month to month. I thought, well that's not too bad if I'm only wanting to use it 4-5 months. It gives you 750 pics/month. It will stop at that unless you authorize it to go over and agree to pay for the extra. I think 750 will hold me for a while. There are more expensive plans that give you more pics, but I decided to keep the cost down. I'm hoping to set it up on Saturday and see what's going on.

If I get it to work and the signal is good enough, maybe I can post some pics on here of Mr. Freak Nasty 48 pointer :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

So I ended up returning the Cuddeback to Cabela's before using it. I was referred to SpyPoint by a buddy. The plans are cheaper along with the cameras and the one I got was alot smaller. So It's been up for about 5 days or so. Probably not in the best location, but it's working. It requires you to have Verizon LTE service where it's placed. I have 2 out of 5 bars there. The camera is totally controlled by your cell phone; whereas the Cuddeback was adjusted on the camera. Unless I'm expecting too much, I'm not super impressed with the quality of the pics so far, but maybe I'm expecting too much. I did have a small buck come in and had no problem counting points. I have posted some pics below just to give you an idea. I do have to say that it is very cool not having to pull cards. The downfall is there is no linking type system like the Cuddeback Link, but the Cuddebacks were also $200 each. The LINK MICRO was $150, but are on sale for $119. I think for that money it's worth the $5 or $10 a month for service. I will save that in gas.

Ok, I've rambled enough, but I just figured a solid review would help out anyone possibly looking for one. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars at this point.

Kevin

This is a nighttime pic just to show the quality..........I don't see anything???

I have a Cuddeback Digital XChange with 2 8 GB cards. It takes
pics & videos. I set it up during squirrel season & swap out the cards every couple of weeks when
I'm squirrel hunting, then down load it to my PC. I do the same thing during turkey season.

Good luck with your new toy but you'll probably only get pics of a turdy point buck.

Good luck and hope to see some nice pics posted here

Now "IF" there was anything worth taking pics and sending them instantly, I'd think about it.
Being I don't deer hunt, I have 1 cam on 24 hrs and 1 on daylight hrs fer' turkey's only and deer, before they go nocturnal at deer season

I just bought the Covert Code Black camera ($389) and put it out over a bag of corn 2 weeks ago. Coons were lighting the phone up so I had to cut it back to one pic per 30 minutes. It is working great and I can totally control it from my phone for pics or videos. Cost is $2 per 1000 pics on yearly plan which will save me money since farm is 60 miles away. Only problem so far is pic quality is not good. Covert told me to put a new SD card in it so we will see if that helps.

I see Bigfoot's face peaking over the trees in the top right. Looks like he may even have some beef jerky in his mouth.
