Shot-Shells-Winchester NWTF 1300

Post by Trex18 »

Helllo GN,

While I see that most of you guys already are hunting and whacking BIRDS !!!! I am sitting here in PA just getting excited for two weeks form now......Anyway....few questions......

I currently shoot a realtree dipped NEF 10, Rhino 720 2 3/8oz Magblends with red dot....and ITS THE LONG BARREL!!!....(I'm 33 and 6'3 240) ...yes young and dumb....Its a gas pipe and heavy sucker.

Anyway....I have been reading this forum a few years now.....and slowly shifting away from the heavy hitting(both ends) 10. I might even try to get some RL equipment this summer and talk to Hal. Seems like a great guy everyone talks about, and reloading seems pretty straightforward and fun to tinker with plus MagBlends are like $40 a box.

So to the point.

I also have a Winchester 1300 NWTF 12 gauge pump much lighter.....kinda my back gun or gun Im taking to National forest when long walk days are in store.

Does anyone have any luck with a shell choke combo? Thanks Yinz. Much Apprecaited.

I had a win 1300 and I had the best luck with hs strut undertaker choke and winchester double x #5 for factory loads it shot flat and to the right so I adjusted point of impact with point of aim and at 40 yards it had no problem killing turkeys I never counted the shot in the 10 but it was enough to kill turkeys I can guarantee that

I have a 1300 NWTF and a plain jane 1300 26" barrel.
Plain has a Carlson 690 sporting clay shooting 3" 2oz TSS #9 that is a killer. Great patterns. The NWTF has Pure Gold 660 that is good as well. The 690 and TSS is bad news. Before TSS I shot long beards and the did good for shooting lead.

The carlson clay tube is safe to shoot HV shot out of it?

I don't have an answer to your question, but take a look at the Longbeard ammo. It shoots great out of my Remington and is much It's much cheaper! I also shot the MagBlends and they performed well, but the Longbeards are pretty awesome!

Yes sir you can shoot HV shot thru Carlson S
Clay  .
I also shot magblend and hevi 13 #6 and #7. Wasn't impressed with magblends but hevi13"6 did ok.
I recommend loading 18g/cc.

I really like the Indian Creek 660 in all of my 1300's. I have 18.5" and 22" barrels and they all shoot great with that choke. I shoot Win Longbeards in 5's and 6's, Hevi 6's, and TSS 8/8.5/9's.

How does TSS 8/9 perform thru IC 660? I would think very tight.

I only shoot TSS through the 18.5" guns. I shoot 1-3/4 ounces of 8.5's generally and it's 250-260 in the 10 at 40. I've killed turkeys 60 with it twice and seen a few killed 50-55 with those guns when someone borrowed one. I've also killed coyotes out to 70+ with that combo and dropped them like a rock.

I'm going to go to 2 ounces of 9's at some point probably just to try it, but I really don't know that I need it. With the lighter load in 9's it will bump over 280 in the 10.

I run a 660 Indian Creek in a 22" tube in mine. I run 2 Oz of 9s. I get right around 450 in the 10" and 200 in the 20" it has killed to 70 once most of my shots are inside 40 though. I did kill one inside of 5 yds and it was a slug hole through its neck. Back about 20 yrs ago I ran a comp - n - choke tube and it was a great pattern with winchester 5s I had faith in that combo out to 50 yds.

Now I gotta load up some 2 ounce 9"s and shoot them in the 22"!

I shoot 3" Hevi 2 oz. #7 through a .660 Jellyhead. My 1300 has the 22" barrel, and I'm putting 265+ in twice lasered 40 yards. Love my 1300.
