Hoobilly Waffle House Fall Tour

Post by Hoobilly »

Been seeing a ton of hens and jennies.. haven't seen the jakes and gobblers in 3 weeks.

my morning scouting drive by's I had seen this bearded hen chase flog and peck the other hens and jennies just about every day.

my son helped me re arrange a platform stand and I remembered seeing these turkeys down the street on the farm. we drove by there before heading to get the other stand moved and asked him if the hens were still there loafing around in the woods. At first it looked like they had moved on and I then caught the shadow looking turkeys and pointed them out. when he finally seen them I asked him if he wanted to try and set up on that hen. he said oh yeah

We went and parked, slipped around the hill along the corn field and when we were about 70 yards from where them hens were, I had him set up in front of me and I let him get situated. using the MKW ghaboon ebony trumpet alone with no other calls I did a series of light yelps and clucks. with the afternoon breeze could barely hear them talking back. ramped it up a bit and hit them with some cuts and loader yelps and heard them get a little louder. after 10 minutes I kicked it up a notch and hit them with some kee kee and kee kee runs. that really got them yelping and the bearded boss hen really started clucking and cutting. I mixed it up with the keekee's and hen yelps cuts etc.

heard the safety click off and I leaned forward to watch the action.. BOOM and that hen flopped

Yes this is what he wore.. plaid shirt and a blue stocking hat

That is cool. I love how this site does not judge folks on the harvesting of a Hen.
That is one awesome bearded hen.
