Got Lucky!

Post by CamoMan4025 »

Well, I got lucky this evening in Clarke County, VA. It was like 22 degrees out and a slight breeze. I was just a little chilly. Light was dimming fast and I was getting ready to pack my stuff up from my stand. I was standing up looking behind me when a doe trotted by about 100 yards. I thought....she's being chased. I then saw a buck, probably a 6 or 8 point. I saw another buck and put the binos up and said to myself...........SHOOTER! I was able to get the gun up, place it on his shoulder and the rest is history!

He's a 12 point and he weighed 145 lbs. There are a few small kickers that you can't see in the picture. I'm gonna get a European mount.

Kevin

These are his scent glands. I can only assume the 2nd rut is in. I have never seen any this saturated and black.

Great buck, congrats! I wish 145 lb deer in my area had headgear like that!

Yep, the Weatherby scored again. I love that gun, but the rounds are a little pricey!

I told you a long time ago,... send me your brass, and bullets of your choice, and I'll load em for ya. No charge.
Probably have a little more punch than what you've been shootin too.

I have saved my brass and probably have maybe 4 boxes. I really like the Nosler 110 grain Accubond. They seem to shoot and perform well from my gun. I just may have to take you up on your offer after this season.

Thanks,

Kevin

Yep, I was gonna suggest Accubonds, and then E- Tips. I love Ballistic Tips, but that 257 Hotrod will turn em into a bomb on contact.
They are Max rated @3200fps, so you're way over the redline with the 257 Mag.
Loaded some 120 BTs in that 26 Nosler. They shot very tight a long ranges, but running 3600fps, they were harsh on deer.
Guy shot one with it. Said it almost cut him in half. Wish he would have snapped a pic. I would have liked to have seen that!
