Seems like everybody forgets Permar.

Post by savduck »

Everybody seems to be building trumpets these days and you dont see Ralphs name out there, despite his multiple Turpin awards. I have three top trumpet call makers and he is one of those three. Man he builds a fine call. This was my latest from him. Cocobola 1940.

And awesome "kee-ers" for chasing the fall birds. I've owned two of Ralph's trumpets, a classic in osage and a 1920 in ironwood. Awesome callers for sure.

Congrats on the 1940 style - that is sweet!

Sharp looking trumpet, nice figured grain in it.

I have one of his brass lined Jordan's, beautiful craftsmanship and an easy playing yelper.

Don’t know why it took me so long to get them. Wanted one for years.

Del, glad you posted this. So true. I have no idea why. Ralph would be in my top tier as well. Ralph has a great website too. I've been looking at that lignum vitae hex call he has up.

That's a beautiful cocobolo 1940 you have. I thought I had heard 2nd hand that Ralph wasn't making any more calls with cocobolo. Here is my Model .45 from 2014, as it was fresh from Ralph. It has darkened up since then.

Ralph himself said when he gets through his stash of coco he is done with it. He will make one but it has started to affect him. He sent me a picture of blistering it put on his hands. I wanted another coco, but couldnt do that to him. Ordered a Brazilian rosewood 1920.

Bringing his thread to the top for good reason!

Found my mailbox was packed full of feathers yesterday. Ralph Permar finished up my new Model .45 in desert ironwood, with an amber tip riding on top. This one is different than most others though. Check out that amber tip - see the spiraling on the inside? New finish to some of his awesome trumpets. Simply stunning, actually.

Strength of the .45 - people rave about Ralph's trumpets for very, very good reasons - all are super easy to run, consistent, and perfectly tuned. This is a special call for me, it will see lots of woods time in the years to come, and I will treasure it!
