The body of this call is Wild Cherry, one side is Butternut and the
other side is Sassafras, which gives 2 different sounds. The lid is
Wild Cherry with an INDIAN CHIEF "GIVING THANKS" wood-burned
into the lid. This call has been responsible for bringing 60+ birds
to the gun.
I have been using the Thanks Giving Call since 04/30/01. On
03/08/02, in Florida, I killed my largest Osceola using this call:
20lbs. 03 ozs. 9” beard, 11/4”, 1 1/8” spurs.
On 04/13/02, in Texas, I killed my largest Rio Grande using this
call: 20lbs., 9 ½” beard, 1 1/4” spurs.
On 05/08/09, in Nebraska, I killed my 1 & only Merriam’s using
this call. He had daggers measuring 1 1/4” & sharp. His beard
was about 6” but, as there had been a lot of snow that winter,
we figure that his beard iced up & broke off as you could see
discoloring at the end. He would have had a dandy 10-12 inch
beard. He was a good 4 year old long bird, 16 lbs., 12 ozs.
On 04/20/15, in Ohio, I killed my largest Eastern using this call:
1 ¼” curving spurs, 9 ¼” beard with a lot of beard rot, & 24 lbs. 10 ozs.
