Re: Making Mouth calls
nice call set-up you have. if you let me borrow it for a week, i would make us calls for the next 6 seasons! lol
pioneer calls wants to charge you $15 dollars in shipping for a $5 order on some tape that wieghs less than 2 ounces. thats crazy man! We gotta find the tape manufacturer that makes this surgical cloth tape. Johnson and Johnson makes this tape, but they also make a thousand other types, so im not sure on which one to order. The surgical tape you can get from walgreens is cut to skinny to get around a mouth call, and its more cloth than surgical tape..

Re: Making Mouth calls
Hey Ricky,
I use a recorded sound of a feeder going off to call Jakes with. Combined with a Jake motion decoy pecking the ground. I hope this tip helps in your quest for the "JAM"
JAM is a trademarked term I came up with for the Jake Grand Slam.

Re: Making Mouth calls
I do.. I have a press very similar to Gobbler D.. After a babbillion duds I turned the corner and learned to build calls for my style..
Re: Making Mouth calls
Yes, I make mouth calls. I have actually developed a simple system for making them that requires no presses or jigs of any type. I really don't want this to sound like a sales pitch here,....just wanting to provide information to those that might be looking at making calls, but I can provide all of the materials and information needed to get somebody started making calls within minutes. If interested, PM me. ....And my apologies to all in advance if this post is inappropriate.

Lonehowl,Lonehowl wrote:Hi all, I know Im new here, but any chance of getting hold of a stretcher like GobblerD posted? Ive seen them here and there, and would love to get one.
Thanks,
Mark
Most guys just make them on their own...if you do buy a premade one, be prepared to drop 200 or more - up to 400 for pnuematic with tension gauge...yada yada.
there are a couple places out there that sell stretchers for 30 bucks, with parts to make 8 calls, but personally i wouldnt buy into it. Up to you though...you may find a treasure somewhere.
Thad Bright Makes a REALLY NICE ONE if you can afford it. Featherridge press (look up)
if you send him an email he will send you photos of the press and answer any questions.
IMO
"buy once, cry once!"

Re: Making Mouth calls
GobblerD's press was made awhile back using a machine shop personally for himself. sorryLonehowl wrote:Thanks, yeah Im familiar with the feather ridge presses which are NICE, but cant drop the coin right now. I didnt know if the stretcher like gobbler d's were available or not so just thought Id ask. I was kinda hoping someone made em for sale. I have a homemade setup but am looking for something different.

If you plan on making 200 mouth calls, be prepared to spend a quarter of the price of the press.
you should know that if you have never made calls before you will probably make 15 or 30 crappy ones before you find the right set-up for your style.
here is a reciept for an order i just purchased...this will make about 200 calls not using all latex ofcourse.

Re: Making Mouth calls
Do a google search for Gaffers tape which is the cloth tape used to bind books with. In the past I was able to locate a US based manufacture for this tape that also did custom runs/cuts specifically for turkey call manufacturers. I don’t remember their name off hand but searching for Gaffers tape should get you close.
