What do y'all consider some of the most innovative changes in call designs in the modern era? I mean things like the Farmer style trumpet tip or hybrid snuff can/wood barrel tube call.
Putting TSS in a call does not count.
Innovative call designs
Re: Innovative call designs
I would have to say that the change I have seen over the last five decades is the perfection of the pot call. The various new combinations of surface materials, sound boards, pot designs, and striker innovations/combinations has basically made it so that anybody wanting to become a turkey hunter can very quickly and easily learn to reproduce very realistic turkey talk. The same can be said with other calls, as well,...box calls, mouth calls, etc.,...but not to the degree that pot calls have changed the game.

And to add a little to what Gobblenut said ,I believe that there are several
people making strikers today that has brought a new realistic sound to those pots.

There's a fella in IN, I think, that developed a sleeved striker design to address the difficulty of finger placement and holding a narrow rod. I was looking at something like that myself, but I have learned to always search for patents before pursuing an idea.
Speaking of pots, I played some Hugh Vinings calls at the barber shop today. His domed pot was interesting. I'm not a box caller, but many people like his box with the slate laid into the lid.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking in cyberspace just waiting for the right time to strike,...and for the rest home folks to take off the straight jacket. It's just really hard to type with that damn thing on. Hopefully, I'll get another post or two in before they catch me again.guesswho wrote:Nope, no jokes from me. I'm glad certain individuals here are beginning to show the proper amount of respect, as well. It has been a long time coming,...and I certainly don't expect it to last.
