His short box is listed at $150.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm just gonna hafta pick a purdy one and roll with it. I knew it before I posted it, but I don't think I can go wrong with any of the makers I listed. I'll probabaly go with my first instinct, Shoemaker. I'm not sure I actually wanna spend $150 on a box call.

I'm not much of a box call guy, and maybe that's because I don't own a good one. I'm looking to change that over the summer. I think I've got a pretty good list of names complied. Let me know what y'all think. I'd like to keep it under the $150 mark. I'm considering the following:
-Steve Mann
-Irving Whitt
-Al Shoemaker
-Darrin Dawkins
-Ed Terefencko
-Bob Harwell
That's what happens when you eat real early before going turkey hunting, and forget your Snickers candy bar!!! :struttin:

I don't have any idea, other than what's been mentioned here. I know what's pretty, but I don't know what sounds good. I was just gonna talk to the callmaker. Y'all help a brotha out!

Mineral Poplar is good as is mahogany for shortbox calls. Actually there's a lot of good woods.

It’s funny. 20 yrs ago I saw a Primos Box collecting dust in an old curbside store- think I bought it for $17.... sat a few seasons on my shelf then one day I pulled it down , ran it and thought Hmmmm.... Been in my vest ever since. It was called the Graphite Prospector and despite its simple origins its killed a few... Now I’m older and am starting to spend a little on calls but that cheap lil box stays in my vest. Does it sound better than custom- No, but I’ve got confidence in it and it “fits” my hand...
“Son, Turkey HUNTING starts at 40yds and in. If you can kill him farther that’s all you’re doing- KILLING. Make him think he’s answering you, call him up, kill him closer-Man! Now that’s what it’s meant to be…” Johnnie Keel ( an Old Pro most never know)

I probably have 25 to 30 box calls and a little one sided Lynch Fool Proof is the ONLY box call that's in my vest, I bought it in "84" or "85" and the older it gets the better it sounds (OR...... maybe my hearing is just getting worse). :D My second choice from my selection is a Quaker Boy, Grand Old Master which sounds purdy good too. Bout the only thing I use a box for is locating.
