Sweet, where did you get the slate?

My Dad had a couple broken pieces of slate. It was about an inch thick to begin with. May have been from a pool table, not sure. Took some time to get a few layers cut off of one piece that were workable. Thiner sounds crisper...

Nice job. I first saw the use of the coconut shell for calls in an old book. One photo or drawing depicted a stricker, a short peg held fast by a section of the shell with the peg coming out of the concave side of the shell. I made one, but it was awkward to use compared with the traditional striker design. The shell was held with the palm of the hand.

They are each a little different... But, I was able to get some sweet turkey sounds from
each one of them. Different areas yield different pitch. You can work em soft and toned down.
But if you need to, they will get load while maintaining consistant sounds.

That is where I got the idea. From this Forum too...

LOL, I love to make calls from "Found" wood. I use old logs and lumber all of the time.
