Ham & Beans & Cabbage…….OH MY!!!!

Post by HunterGKS »

I decided it was time to make my yearly big ole pot of ham soup/stew. I think it’s a little different than in years past as I don’t have specific recipe I just throw stuff into the pot as I think of it.

INGREDIANTS

1 pound of 15 bean soup mix washed & soaked overnight or longer, you decide.
Ham bone & chunks of ham cut into bite-sized pieces
2 11 ounce boxes of Instant Barley
2 sweet onions chopped
1 large head of cabbage cut into wedges
Carrots of you have them chopped
Spices = Whatever floats your boat. I added oregano, a touch of Cayenne pepper, Some Lawry’s Seasoning Salt & a couple of splashes of Chipotle Sauce

DIRECTIONS

1. Throw everything but the barley into a large pot & cover with water.
2. Stir with a large metal spoon.
3. Cover & bring to a boil then reduce the heat to low.
4. Stir every 15 minutes or so.
5. Cook until the cabbage & carrots are tender.
6. Add the barley & cook until it is tender, about 10-12 minutes. (It only took about 2 hours total.)
7. MANGIA!!!! DIVERTITI!!! (For those who aren’t as fluent in Eyetalin as I am, that translates to: EAT UP!!!! ENJOY YOURSELF!!!!

Done had 3 bowls. It is purty good. Just needed to add a little salt. The cayenne & chipotle are
juuuuuuuuust barely taste-able which is the way I like it.
