My father-n-Law runs the Ramp Festival in Vonore, TN. I've never gone because I think they are terrible, but people travel from all over the country to go to that festival.

Had them with just about every meal at our hunting camp in Webster County just off Birch River. Also found a huge patch here in my Ohio deer woods.

I finally got a little free time to go dig some Tuesday. Got about 40 lbs to relocate to my property. Hoping to be able to walk out my back door and get them a few years from now. They just take so long to multiply.

There are no numbers on any of my clocks below 8. Then all of a sudden, 2 days before turkey season they appear. Then right after the season they disappear.
What's up with that

Basically a wild green onion. They have a bulb underground and a green broad leaf on top. They grow so thick some of the places I hunt that that is all u can smell

I'm familiar with them just because of y'all. So do you eat the bulb?...or just cook down the greens?....or in some cases just eat raw. I'm constantly raiding food plots for turnips, but we don't have anything that grows wild like that down here.

I will use the bulds with morels or in dishes and treat it like a scallion. A good spring time meal, grilled Brooke trout, morels and leaks and fresh grilled asparagus

You had me at asparagus. Looks like I need to learn how to identify ramps if they taste like green onions.

Look in mature hardwoods, they will blanket the ground where they grow

You can also find them in flood Plains along streams and rivers. Floods spread the bulbs and if you find a river that has a them along the banks they can be easier to access. My favorite way to prepare them is to coat them with olive oil, litely salt and pepper and then grill them. Only takes a minute or so or the leaves will burn up. I almost always eat the whole ramp unless i'm pickling late season ramps with a large bulb.

If you get close to a batch, you'll smell them before you see them, Red.

The a-gus is from my patch. Those are ramps from my deer/squirrel woods that have been cleaned. I thought I had some pics of a ramp patch in the woods and/or pulled & in a bucket. I'm searching all my files right now.

I love asparagus, as well. I grow it. Brush with olive oil, season lightly with Lowrys, wrap it with prosciutto and throw it on the grill. It will knock your socks off.
Asparagus does make your pee stink..Yowsa..
