Tying jigs
Tying jigs
Not much going on around home today so it seemed like a good afternoon to put a few panfish jigs together for spring.
I'm hoping for a new panfish jigging rod for Christmas.

Nicely done. Do you cast your own Jigs? No paint in the eyelet.. I see that you took care of that. My pet peeve!
BTW.. That dime looks almost real!

Re: Tying jigs
I’ve actually been watching tons of jig/fly tying videos over the past few weeks....mostly jigs. Seems like something I would really enjoy. I told my wife a couple weeks ago, for Christmas, she could buy me some stuff to start tying. Between making mouth calls and tying jigs, I’m not gonna have time to hunt or fish

WW,
It really is something I enjoy doing. I also fly-fish (though not as much in the last couple of seasons as I used to.) And tie the flies I use. Jigs are nice though because I don't have to be as concerned with proportions, I can put one together in two or three minutes and I have a lot of room to play around with different materials. Get a halfway decent vice to start with and ceramic bobbins and good DR. Slick scissors. Those three things will shorten your learning curve more than anything else you can invest in.

Hognutz,
No I don't poor my own jig heads. I've thought about it but honestly I buy painted heads pretty cheap and realistically, the cost of buying the mold, the melting pot, the lead and the hooks, the paint, taking the time to do the entire process, breathing lead fumes and dealing with all of it doesn't really seem like a good trade off for the couple hundred or so that I put together each winter.

Re: Tying jigs
Tied my first one ever today. I was rushed and the kids were hanging all over me, but I think it came out ok. Didn’t paint the head, but I will be in the future. Not perfect by any means....but it’ll catch a fish! I’m really gonna enjoy this.
