Remington 870 Express 20 Gauge Mag Cap

Post by sdorton »

Ok 27 years ago I replaced the factory Cap with an after market cap that had a swivel stud in it for a sling. But the after market one looks like crap. Looks too big for the gun. Anyways I plan on redoing this gun along with some mods in the near future. But I want a mag cap that looks/or is factory with the swivel stud on it. I stay have the factory cap too. So where would I buy that swivel stud or a cap with swivel stud already on it? I've googled til I'm blue in the face with no luck :violent1: . Any help is appreciated.

Uncle Mikes makes Just the swivel stud and the cap with the stud.

I got a stud for my stock mag cap at a local gun shop for 2 dollars. I would just as your local shop/gun Smith. They usually have one of those big Brownells boxes of assorted studs.

That’s for a 12ga I believe.

I’ve never found one for a 20ga I made my own after looking for way too long. I’m hoping someone can show us who makes one for the 20ga.

I don't like the looks of this one personally

My gun shop had a cap in stock for the 20 gauge but I went with the 2 dollar stud rather than 25 dollar cap, if I get back there this weekend I can check the make on it. There is a stud that fits the factory cap though.

Where online do you find just the stud for the mag cap. I like the low profile of the stock one on my wingmaster mag 20

Mine came out of the Uncle Mike's assortment pack that Brownells sells. So I would assume Uncle Mike's or maybe Brownells, I am guessing you will need to call to get the correct one. I didn't get mine online.

This one looks a little better
That's the one I put on my 90's vintage 870 Express - part # 18015. My recollection is that there are two types of caps used, depending on the year of manufacture. If your cap is the style that just has the ring of detents on the base, and there is a small ball bearing in the barrel lug, this is the one you want.
