Sumtoy choke grooves full of lead

Post by Gar Commander »

Did my annual barrel cleaning on my turkey guns and chokes last night and noticed that the grooves running the length of choke were filled up with something. Figured it was plastic from wads as this is a .650 benelli choke and very tight constriction. Ran a dental pick tool in there up and down the grooves and the amount of lead that came out of the grooves really surprised me. I had shot it lately crow hunting, but I would have thought that the wads would have kept the lead shot fully encapsulated until it left the barrel? Just a heads up to clean your chokes when you clean your barrels.

I know some of the chokes have concentric grooves to act as wad strippers. Perhaps the parallel grooves are wad strippers, too.
