11-87 20ga shurshot stock

Post by ole5beards »

I’m sure I’ve seen this question at least once or twice before, but CRS hits me hard! Does anyone know if the 870 20ga shurshot stock will fit the 11-87 20ga?

According to a guy in Ohio it will work with a little modification.

Mine fit with no modification. 870’s and 11-87’s rear stock are interchangeable.

Well I have a dilemma, I bought the 870 20ga shurshot stock and it fits good on the 11-87, notice I said good and not perfect! Years ago I had an 870 express super mag, this was back in 04, well before the shurshot’s were out, and I had an afternarket pistol grip that I put on it after having my thumb come back and pop me on the nose after pulling the trigger. The first time wasn’t that bad, after the 4th or 5th time it stung pretty damn good especially on those early season cool mornings and I wasn’t going to have a 6th time! When the shurshot came out years later I got one and put it on,worked good and felt great and no more issues almost breaking my nose, but it was higer than the other stock therefore making the bead impossible to use, so I put a scope on it, problem solved. Put the stock on my 11-87 20ga last week and I was planning on putting a Vortex Venom on it anyhow, I had a Burris Marlin 336 plate I’d bought several years back and never used it on my Super Black Eagle 2, so I decided to use it on the 11-87, had it tapped and drilled for that plate last week as well. Put the site on the gun friday and went to try and get it dialed in, and couldn’t even get it close to center! That shurshot sits up way higher on the 11-87 20ga than it did on my old 870 12ga, and I ran out of room to adjust my up and down. I have since put the original stock back on it and I’m going to try it again hopefully one day this week. I feel pretty confident this will fix the issue and I should be able to get it dialed in. I was wanting to know if anyone else has a similar setup, and if they’ve had the same issues? If so what did you do to fix it? I do like the shurshot but its a 20ga, and its not thumping me anywhere close to as bad as 12ga 3 1/2”, so I dont really need it for that. The gun is a compact, so the original stock is shorter and it doesnt fit me that great, that’s the main reason I got the shurshot stock for it, but it came with LOP adjustments, and I can make it an inch longer by adding those 3 LOP plates to it. I’ve never had a compact gun before so I dont know how well that will work over the years, it’ll fit but I dont know how those plates will hold up over time? Have any of y’all had to shim a vortex venom before? Is it easy? And lastly that marlin 336 plate is thin, I have seen where sumtoy makes a mounting plate for the venoms, and it seems to be thicker, which to me woukd make sense, making the site situp higher, and that could possibly resolve the issue as well, and I’d still be able to use the shutshot stock, but I dont know if that plate holes will line up just like the Marlin 336 plate, and I’d need it to since the gun was tapped and drilled for that plate. Any ideas, suggestions, or help??? I’d greatly appreciate it!

What about a weaver rail for the 336 and cut it down and then use the picatinny mount? It will raise the sight up some. Just a thought.
