Question for all of you Burris FF3 shooters. Do most of you mount your FF3 towards the end of your railing? I have to get my Benelli M2 drilled and tapped in order to mount one, and this will be the first FF3 my local gunsmith has ever done, so he was unsure when I thought it should go to the rear. From most of the pictures that I have seen, most mount them as far back as they can it seems. My sight should be here in the next couple of days, so I'm just wanting to ask for opinions/suggestions before hand.

I like mine back as far as I can. The sight can be mounted a long way from your eyes and still work just fine, especially if you shoot with both eyes open. I am cross dominant and close my left eye when I shoot (rt handed). In that situation it is very helpful to have the sight closer to your eye.

I would say mount on the barrel as far back as possible without being at the balance point where you carry it.

I put the gun in a rest, sat the sight on the receiver, and slid it forward and back until I found the spot I liked it. It’s toward the rear of the receiver, but not all the way back.

And the M2 is thicker near the back

I have mine on a Burris Speedbead mount that sandwiches between the stock and end of gun and I’m having no issues and yes I shoot with both eyes open. I have shot Turkey, Duck and dove with it mounted this way. I think the answer to your question is put it where it feels comfortable and where you can shoot it. The FF3 works if it’s 5 inches from your eyeball the way out to ... well not really sure how far away but prolly could see it mounted on the end of your barrel.

Now I have been thinking about doing a rail with one of the wing mounts on mine and moving it because once already it lost zero I may have been a little rough on it but hey it’s a tool.

Here is more info about the opinions on this, I’m building a new 20ga Remington for my daughter and getting it drilled and taped at my gun smith and he spent 20 minutes telling me where I should and should not put the FF3 but at the end of it all I’m going to put it where my girl can cosistantly shoot the gun with no issue and that’s the right spot.

I mount my reflex sites toward the back out of habit. I can tell you FOR SURE that old eyes like it farther away! LOL Maybe think along the lines of putting it where you can adjust brightness and on off easily without a lot of excess movement.

What size dot does everyone use. 3 or 8. Thinking about getting one for my 870 20 guage.

I go small. It’s easier to pin point your shot and doesn’t cover half of the bird.

I have the FF2 on my 870 20ga. It's a 4 moa and has a lot less that can tear up than the FF3. Been running FF2's since 2010 without issue. Also, swapping batteries isn't near as big of deal on the FF2 as it's made out to be. Just flip it on/off like your safety and battery will last for years, 4-5 easily. Just my 2 cents worth...

Are the FF'2 still available. Also does the speed bead mount work with the 20 gauge 870. I see they have a mount for the 12 gauge.

Yes, FF2's are still available. You can find em on Ebay for around $165 or so. Unfortunately the SpeedBead mount won't fit the 870 20 ga. I have one on my 870 SM 12 and really like it. I had my 20 ga 870 drilled and tapped for a Burris FF Marlin 336 (410333) mount.

I go small. I see a smear when the brightness is high, but it's a smaller smear. There's really no substitute for looking at them in person.

I talked to Burris today and they said they are making a speed bead mount for a 870 20 guage. He said it should be out in a couple of weeks.
