Who hunts with a double?
I’ve always loved the idea of having 2 choked barrels for close in and longer shots, and they almost belong in a natural blind with a turkey dog in your lap. Who hunts with a double and any problems getting the barrels regulated?
Re: Who hunts with a double?
I'm currently building a 20ga Browning Cynergy Micro Midas with 24" barrels I'm really excited about. It's still at the gunsmith getting a rail fabricated for it, then it's off for Cerakoting. I've got a 3.5" 12ga Fabarms with 20" barrels that shoots really well. I enjoyed hunting with it when I was younger, but now pulling the trigger feels like getting hit by a car. Hands down the most recoil of any gun I've shot and that's more than just a few.

I chickened out, worried about poi/poa issues and went auto. But would love a sxs personally.
Re: Who hunts with a double?
I have a bobwhite 20ga sxs. Works good and fun to carry.

Hunt with a 12 ga Beretta 686 UL O/U. Top barrel shoots about 6" higher than bottom barrel. Split the difference and aim at waddles with top barrel and noggin with bottom barrel, and it works out fine. Here's a couple pix, including the gun with the first gobbler I ever killed with TSS, back in 2009.

I hunt with a 12ga,20ga, 28ga, and .410 o/u. To regulate the barrels to poa/poi for both barrels do the choke filing that poorcountrypreacher on here has a post about! It works! I’ve tried it on a couple of over and unders.

Re: Who hunts with a double?
Got my first with one the Saturday before last in New York. American Arms NWTF 1996 Banquet Gun. The bottom barrel has a Carlson’s .665 in it and it did an incredible job at a distance I misjudged...

I built one thinking I’d carry it this year, but ended up deciding to stay faithful to my 870 until I finish my slam. Looking forward to taking this one to the woods in a few years.

A better question may be, who hunts with a Farmer? Always loved that tailgate pic.
Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts.
Re: Who hunts with a double?
Hunted with a Ruger Red Label for many years. My friends all thought I was nuts when I scuffed it up and painted it camo, but that was a fine turkey gun!!
Re: Who hunts with a double?
In the fall its been known to happen. Old black powder gun.
Re: Who hunts with a double?
Double has always been the side by side to me. O/Us are newfangled. Kinda like how people want you to say semi-auto instead of automatic. I don't own a double. An O/U has been right handy the past several years. Choking the barrels differently is lost on me.

Photobucket caved. It's still the worst hosting service, but you can use it to post pics on forums again. Picturetrail is more better.Spuriosity wrote: ↑June 4th, 2018, 8:47 am Hunt with a 12 ga Beretta 686 UL O/U. Need to learn how to post pix again. Gave up after Photobucket quit playing nice. The advantages I find using PB are twofold: 1) all my stuff is there and 2) the editing features.

I'll go back and take another look at PB then, and perhaps also Picturetrail. Thanks.howl wrote: ↑June 10th, 2018, 10:52 pmPhotobucket caved. Re: Who hunts with a double?
Back in the day when 10 gauge was the rage, I had two doubles in 10 ga. One was a 1938-9 Ithaca NID 3.5" and the other was a Spanish gun in the same chamber length. Both were 32". I still have the Ithaca after trading back for it about 5 years ago my SBE to the man I sold it to over 30 years ago. MIxed in with the kills, I had some spectacular misses with those brutes and decided a single barrel pump might be better in 12 ga. Well, I missed with it, too. And 20 ga. and .410. Maybe I should try an 8 ga. where legal. Gil

Re: Who hunts with a double?
Are some over and unders better barrel regulated than others? i.e. would a Browning or Beretta have better barrel regulation than say a stoger? Or is it just an inherent issue with all of them. I set up an old Ithaca SKB 12ga and it shoots to where with adjustable sights compensation can be made.
Re: Who hunts with a double?
Barrel regulation can be a tricky proposition. It can be load specific.
