Good evening all I’ve been playing around with the federal TSS 12ga 3in #9, and plan on shooting the Apex 3in 2.25oz #9 looking to see what others are having good results with regarding the small shot size will a .665 Carlson be fine to stick with?

I see Federal tss shooting good in a few sizes. Try it and see. But to get a shamwow pattern you’ll need a tight choke.

I have the Indian Creek 665 for my Maxus and it shoots my handloads or TSS really well. Some like a 675 all the way up to a 696 with TSS depending on load.

IC .665 and Kick GT .680 both do well with 2oz/2.25oz hand loads.

I have shot about every size choke available in 12 inv+. Just depends on what ya want in a pattern. To lay em all in the 10” and impress your buddies, ya need .665ish. To have just a million in the 10” and good 10”-20” coverage I picked a .680 Carlson’s.

I think it is very dependent on your specific gun. I tried some chokes that worked good for other folks and they just didn’t do as well in my gun. I’m shooting a .660 Rob Roberts and in my Maxus, it is pretty even through the 20”.

As others have already said, in my SX3 a .665 Indian Creek was a very hot core and slim in the 20, I tried a .680 Trulock and believe I was 320 on the 10 and then settled on a .690 extended Hastings because it shot to point of aim and was shooting 300/270 patterns.
