Removing scope mount.

Post by redarrow »

Had my 410 drilled and tapped awhile back . Gunsmith installed a 870 mount for my Mueller Quickk site. I'm thinking I want to go with a scope instead.Which will require a longer mount and maybe another hole or 2. I assume he used thread locker of some sort. I tried a soldering iron for 10 minutes to get the locker soft enough to remove the screws. They ain't budging. I though about a torch, but I think the mount is aluminum. Any suggestion ?

use a heat gun and before it starts glowing put whatever bit it takes on the screw head in a screwdriver handle and as you turn it counter clockwise tap it on top with a rubber mallet.

The heat gun puts out a lot of heat. The one I have which is like a $20 special from Walmart or Lowes works well. You cannot pin point a specific area. Mine probably has about a 1.5" - 2" opening and that's all you can isolate it down to.
