20 Gauge Barrel Length

Post by Thumper »

I am about to send off my single shot barrel to be threaded for Rem Chokes and have asked the shop to shorten the barrel for handiness sake to 20 1/2". The 870 youth I have is 21" and am hopeful that 1/2" isn`t going to cause concerns on the patterns density. A friend said he had read that the powder was burned up in the first 18" so maybe all will be fine. Do any of you own a 20 with a short, "less than 21" barrel?

.5" won't make a noticeable difference one way or the other in "handiness" or ballistics.

I could go shorter yet, just don't know where to stop. The TSS may not mind.

I can’t see where it matters with TSS, especially with only 1/2” difference.

I hunted with a 18.75" barrel last year with Tss, killed Turkey's just fine out to just over 40.

I spoke with Dean at Skeets, and decided on a 20" length, much handier than the factory 24".

Tell son in law congrats! Extra fine job on that bird!!

Will do, that was last year, I've gone to a 21" barrel on both my 20's this year.
