Hobbes, where did u find a saddle mount for 20ga? or did you use a 12ga. I really want to put on the Picatinny Rail as its a little cleaner install but I'm keeping my options open, just could not find a saddle mount that said it fit a 20ga 870.

Sorry, I'm using a 12. I do have an older saddle that I used to mount a shotgun scope on both a 12 and 20. Washers were provided to place between saddle and receiver to make up width difference. That particular saddle is composite or some sort of plastic and I don't know if it meets picatinny specs.

I think that I got my current saddle from Sun Optics. It looks like they have one for an 870 20ga.

I just talked with my gunsmith and he says $45 to mount the Picatinny Rail so I am going to go that route ... All i need to figure out is which one will fit a 20ga.

I have found these:
http://www.egwguns.com/scope-mounts-rin ... idextrous/
https://leapers.com/index.php?act=prod_ ... o=MTU028SG
https://mesatactical.com/picatinny-rail ... gton-5-in/

I like the mesa tactical best because its only 5 inches but im not sure if it will fit a 20ga profile.

depending on costs, don't be afraid to cut a rail down and paint the end. I have don't that before

I ordered a Mesa Tactical and we will see if the profile is right for the 20ga. I will prolly do a build post on this 870 20ga and include all the parts I used, maybe it will help someone else.

I have a B-Square saddle on my 870 20 gauge. It's rock solid and has never given me any problems.

Millet also makes a saddle mount for the 870 in 20 gauge also.

The Mesa rail fits the round profile on the 20ga but you can see under it just a wee bit in the flat spot, I asked the gunsmith and he said it was not an issue, he said if it really bothered me I could put some neoprene gasket under the rail but he would leave the gap.

RaspD thanks for the info, my OCD would kill me using a saddle but I’m sure it works perfect.

I've drilled quite a few 870s and 1187s. If someone tells you it can't be done, they don't want to do it. 6-46 threads.

I had my 870 Drilled and tapped the gunsmith told me it had plenty on threads to lock down good when I went to pick it up. I’ve never had a problem with it moving some gunsmith might not be comfortable with it though

Just ordered a EGW Rail and Tap for mine as well, anyone know how far back from the front of the receiver to the first screw that they usually come from the factory?
