North Carolina Opener

Macy and I were settup near a known roost. We were hunting on a farm near my house. There gobblers roosted in the woods down near the river below us. They flew down and came down straight too us. Gobbling all the way. The gobblers moved to our left. A hen came by at ten yards. She stayed around us sratching and preening her feathers.The two longbeads were strutting and gobbling a bunch. They were about 50 to 60 yards away. Then four jakes came up. The big gobblers were chasing the jakes just out of range. They all went toward the west of us. Then they all went to the other side of the small field. Then they moved back toward us. Then the hen came back by first and then the four jakes. The jakes were in range by she decideed not to shot a jake. She wanted to wait on a longbeard. The longbeards stayed just out of the range of her 20 gauge youth shotgun when they came by. They all went on by without a shot. They circled around the field we could hear them gobbing ever now and then. We had a ball. Macy could have killed a jake but she is holding out for one of the big gobblers. We are going again next Saturday.

Nothing better than going hunting with a youngster. Is she your daughter? Looked like a great time. Definitely beautiful there.
