It's not bowhunting, but I figured this was the thread to post it in.....
Hunted Pronghorn this past weekend in southern NM. It's really hard to get drawn for these hunts anymore, but I managed to get one this year.
...Killed this buck on the first morning about 10:30.

May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I used my Dad's pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in 30.06....that rifle is a classic and a sweet-shooter. I paced the distance after the shot at 308 yards, although I had misjudged it (forgot to take my rangefinder) beforehand, guessing it was around 225. Those open-grassland ranges are hard for me to judge.
Nonresident tags are $290,...if you can draw a permit, which is a real longshot for NR that don't buy landowner tags (which will set you back significantly more). For residents like myself, the tags are about $60, but the drawing odds are still really steep,....in most cases, somewhere around one in twenty,...or worse. We were really lucky to draw the permits. I have drawn two in the last twenty years,...but know other guys that have never drawn one.

Nice gun. They don't make them like that, anymore. Great shot, as well... Now, forgetting the range finder on a goat hunt, Yikes!! But it all worked out for you. Can't beat that with a stick..Well done..MikeGobble Nut wrote:I used my Dad's pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in 30.06....that rifle is a classic and a sweet-shooter.
