Pasture Piggy #2

Post by HunterGKS »

I’ve been waging a battle of wits ()and losing) with this pasture piggy for about a month.
He would show himself but would always spot me before I could get a shot. He dug under
my butcher shed & I managed to get him gone from there. Then he found a small opening
in the rock wall at the end of my deck where the downspout comes down. I saw him run
from there to the beans several times.

I saw him twice this afternoon in the beans but he managed to hit the grass before I could
get off a shot. Then, at 18:45 this evening, he made a fatal mistake & showed himself in
an open bean field at about 120 yards. I was able to sneak out, get a good rest, & sloooooooowly
squeezed the trigger on the Rem 700 .223. At 1st, I thought I had missed as I saw a puff of dust
behind. But, when he didn’t move, I knew I had a good hit. Turns out it was a through & through
right behind the shoulder. It barked & down he went without even the usual tail wagging.

The whistle pigs have been scarce this year. This is only number 2.

Good job. I’ve killed 1 so far.
First one I’ve killed in 20 or so years. Shot it with shotgun.

Nice shooting, George. That’s not a very big target at 120 yards!
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I've never shot 1 with a shotgun. At different times in this "war", I had a .22 Browning Challenger II,
a 20 ga. Rem 835, or the .223 Rem 700 but never got a shot till the final countdown.

Thx. I had the scope cranked to 9. Anything less & I'm not sure I would have seen it through
the scope.

Gotta keep those critters out. Something is eating the tops off a lot of
my asparagus. I'm thinking bunnies. Haven't seen any deer tracks.
