I got set-up in the woods behind the house at 07:32 at 60, overcast, & calm.

At 07:36, I saw something running across in front of me. I thought to myself,
self I thought: “It’s too early for squirrels to be up & about.” It was a coon
that ran to my left & up a tree.

At 07:42, I saw a squirrel moving from left to right across the 4-wheeler trail.
I followed it in the scope but lost sight when it went behind a tree. It reappeared
on a dead fall & hopped up it. Again, I followed it in the scope until it stopped in
a small opening. The .17 barked, the squirrel stopped, dropped, but didn’t roll.
You can see the opening in the pic just below where the 2 dead falls meet. She
was on the left dead fall. I think this is the quickest I have ever gotten a squirrel.

At 09:00, I picked up the fox & walked back to the pond. The owner had cleared
a lot of brush off the trail so It was a lot easier walk. The trees were loaded with
birds. Lots of tweeties (various finches & wrens) woodpeckers, blue jays, & a couple
of cardinals, but there were more robins than all the others together. They’re starting
to flock up for migration.

I have never seen a cluster of mushrooms such as these. I thought they were pretty
cool looking & would add to the pic of the fox.

At 10:35, I heard 1 scolding behind me but I never could spot it.

I headed in at 11:00 with a slight breeze, still overcast, & 70.

Mike, It's a Savage.17 HMR topped with a 4x9 Bushnell Scope.
I shoot Hornady 17 grain V-Max.

Nice rig, George. That .17 is nasty! Head shots are desired and you do shoot it well!

Thx. The 1st fox I shot with it landed with the entrance hole on top. I thought: "That's not so bad, only a small hole."
Then I flipped it over & the whole exit side of its head was gone!! I was just a little far back today & completely
dissected the neck. All that kept the head from falling off was some skin & a little meat.

Devastating little round!!
