Any Hog Hunters?

Post by Gobbler »

I really love Hog hunting. Been doing it since 81. Slowed down the last few years but I still love it.
I love killing the big Boar hogs. I normally hunt them with out dogs but recently I was invited to and I had a blast. It was crazy exciting.

Any one else like it?

Think I'm gonna start posting ads in the polk county paper "free hog removal service". No property to hunt em on. They moved away from my normal spot.

Yup we do. Been out the last few and for the next few to keep them out the gardens. Got a uncle that catches them with dogs and moves them to other places.

I used to love hog hunting with dogs but then TS's dogs died and I just haven't been into it as much...Now a days I hunt by myself just stalking, it's alot easier on the body too, lol...I don't like hunting them with hounds and alot of the hunters are using them now, to me all it does is push the hogs, Rebel and Dagger wouldn't bark until they had the hog and then you knew it was time to go.
My first stuck hog...Me, TS, Rebel and Dagger got this one...One of my best hogs to date...we had a blast :toothy7:

One of the last hunts with Reb....I got the black one and TS got the red one....Irv is in the middle :)

The last hog I got...without Reb :(

We didnt have enough hogs around here to be an actual hog hunter, but I did kill several while they were here.

I absolutely love chasing them, I run them on the river @ lk Winder and on Tosohatchee and Seminole ranch during the season.

Gblack....I hate to tell ya this but you can only hunt hogs on Toso.and Seminole with a quota permit and you can't hunt them via airboat, you have to sign in and enter through the WMA check station and there's no where on either of those WMA's that allow you to launch an airboat... just make sure you know the laws, Law Enforcement can and will get you for hunting out of season if you are caught hunting Toso. or S.R. without a quota....

Simmer down Ma he said during the seasons and neither is near lake Winder where hunting them from the air boat is perfectly legal. Now lets not talk about FWC Law Enforcement now as we all know they are about as good as a dead possum.

I may have jumped to conclusions because of the airboat comment, so I apologize if that's the case, I just don't want anyone getting into trouble over a damned hog.

That's just wrong Gobbler, lol....so wrong....It's not totally clear in his words if he's running the boat on Toso.and S.R. or if he's hunting during the hunts and I did say I may of jumped to conclusions, but I also explained why...a hog just isn't worth it...If it were up to me, we would have year round hog hunting on all public lands but it's not...

Im 55 now.

Heres a pic back in the eighties. Howard Hill straight bow with aluminum arrows. I Heard some hogs coming my way so I climbed up in a huge oak with a big limb about 8ft off the ground. He was the last hog of about 9 that walked under me. He was about 8 yards away. A chip shot with the bow.

It depends. There are ways to get the stink out of a boar Hog. Some people soak the meat. Small Sows are good eating. Alot of people trap and put them in a pen and feed them up before they kill them. I like to shoot them in the ear. If they don't know its coming I have killed boar hogs that the meat was fine.

I've only had a couple of nasty hogs,my very first one that i left the fat on and then cooked it, Good Lord that was nasty...gagging ...
I usually let my hog meat sit on bags of ice in a cooler for 5-7 days before processing draining the water daily and replacing ice as needed....haven't eaten rank meat since I started doing that.
