NM Dusky grouse

Post by RapscallionVermilion »

Took my lab out for some grouse hunting in northern New Mexico. We didn't find much, but we didn't get skunked, she had a blast, and I got to stretch my lungs out a bit.

Great fun! My favorite thing to hunt. Grouse..
Looks like one satisfied dog! Nice!!
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Yes sir! Fun to hunt. Easy to clean and they are great table fare. Any way you make them! Nothing better than bird hunting on a nice October day!!

Nice. Love me some Blue Grouse. Not sure why they changed the name to dusky grouse though? They will always be blue grouse to me and they are outstanding table fair.

I'm with you on the name change. Based on the DNA, split into two species, but I never liked it. Hunted Blue Grouse for 20 years here before the new name. In my head they'll always be Blue Grouse. They sure do cook up good. Tonights dinner.

That looks delicious. Makes me want to get into the hills and shoot some grouse.

These Blue Grouse are a good size bird, almost as big as a pheasant by weight, so the legs make a tender and mighty tasty morsel.

I can see that the legs and thighs are bigger than a ruffed grouse. They really aren’t worth saving. Boney and no meat to speak of.
As Tom mentioned, they legs stay with the gut pile.
