Nbr 11 in the Books

Post by HunterGKS »

I was taking some scraps out to the compost pile & decided to take my rifle & check the rock pile for pasture piggies. On the way, a g-hog was walking up the small dip in my yard just north of my east windbreak. We spotted each about the same tip & stopped. I bent down, placed the scrap container on the ground, straighten up, unslung the rifle, & put it to my shoulder. While I was doing this, I expected it to run off but, instead, it took a couple of steps toward me. I had the scope on 9x & the g-hog was really fuzzy as it was only 9 steps (9 yds) from me. The next thing was the surrender waving of the tail. Number 11 for the year & only 2 more needed to meet my average.

I couldn’t tell exactly where I hit the piggy as there was no exit would & the only blood was at the mouth. It was looking at me when I shot so I think the bullet went into the mouth & traveled through the body without exiting. Either that or it entered & exited the mouth & shattered enough bone to send shards into the brain. Only 1 eye was popped.

I just can't wrap my head around eating 1 for some reason. I have eaten BBQ coon & it was OK. I'd bet this ones innards were a mess & would have been no fun to clean.

Good job George. I miss killing groundhogs with the rifle. Havent seen one in long time. The farm I used to killem on is all growed up now thus you cant see them. As far as eating them I have never tried it but I got a uncle that says its good, but that's coming from somebody that has eatin or tasted some nasty stuff, like when he was topping tobacco he bit the head off a tobacco worm and a small snake. :pukeright: He has eatin possum and skunk and said NOT BAD.

Knowing what a possum eats, I don't think I would even think about eating 1. How on God's Green Earth could anyone get past the smell of a skunk to clean it?? They stink even when they don't spray!!
