2017 Ohio hunt

Post by 2Shooter » November 19th, 2017, 9:03 pm

The wife, and I went to Ohio the first of the month for 10 days. Where we were I think the rut was early around halloween. We had plenty of daytime pics of nice bucks during those days. Usually the fifth of November till the fifteenth is the best time to be there. In 10 years of hunting there this was the worst year I’ve seen!! But we still had some good luck!!! The wife got a nice 10 point, and I got a nice gobbler!!! Hope EHD hasn’t hit Souther Ohio to bad this year, but it doesn’t look good!!!

For the worst year in 10, it sure looks like you weren't skunked and did well on what you went after

Had the poorest year on the early goose season on central Michigan this past year, since the early goose season started  Hot & dry then and now wet & cold & snowy
ever wonder where the white goes when the snow melts??

Thanks fellas, I was with her when she kilt it! She made a heck of a good shot, and let a 125gr 2 1/4” Swhacker eat! He only went about 40 yards!! But, she is giving me a hard time that she got a buck, and I didn’t. Going back Sunday for the Monday opening of shotgun season to try to get even!!!

Good luck - I'm originally from OH and hunt the Meigs County area often for spring turkeys. My friends up there haven't mention EHD as a problem and their grandkids did ok on deer during this past weekends youth season. Thirty plus years of pretty much unlimited doe harvest may be taking a toll but it is what it is and definitely what was pushed by the insurance companies to lessen deer/auto contacts.

BTW-When I lived there and bowhunted we ALWAYS took November 8 -10 off and spent those days in treestands. Nice to have a State where the gun season comes in after the main rut.

Well I went back to Southern Ohio for shotgun season, and took my CVA Electra 50 Cal muzzleloader. The hunting was slow because of all the deer drives, and shooting. The only buck I saw was a 4 point at the end of legal shooting time. When he hit the pasture field he kicked it into high gear to get to the woods on the other side. Didn’t get a big buck, but I did get ole Willie, and a 285grn Barnes Spit-fire did a number on the large male at 99 yards!!!

nothing better than a dead coyote!

my cousin had one pop up in the middle of a push, he shot it. if he wouldnt have shot it, a crazy tined monster would have been within 80 yards of him. It turned around and fled back across the stickweed patch. But he did shoot a old buck that is also called Gimpy as both front legs had been broke at sometime in its life. He has let that buck walk for the last 4 years and after a crap firearm season, decided to kill him when he stepped out at 200 yards. I will try and post up pictures in a bit..
