We had a great coyote calling day!
My coyote hunting buddy jp7mag and I started calling about two weeks ago in the morning just after it got light enough to see.
I was sitting up next to a juniper with my shotgun and jp7mag was off to my right side with his 243 Win.
At around 15 minutes of calling jp7mag shot a coyote that I had not seen.
On Stand number two we were laying prone on flat bare ground with rifles and had a coyote run up and stop about 30 yards from my Fury. I shot this one with my 243 Win.
Here is jp7mag with our second coyote. Two for two is a good way to start out the day.
We blanked on the 3rd and 4th stands.
On the 5th stand we tried a great looking spot that has never worked for me before. I think I had tried this spot at least 4 or 5 times but it just looks to good to pass up.
This is what it looked like. I was sitting about 15 yards from my Fury with my shotgun and jp7mag was up the steep hill behind me with his 243 Win.
After calling for about 10 minutes I saw a coyote standing under an oak tree about 300 yards below me.
I hit my #3 pre-set sound Vole Squeaks on volume 20. The coyote didn't move so I raised the volume on Vole Squeaks and the coyote started heading up the hill towards me as soon as it heard the Vole Squeaks sound.
That big blurry thing to the left of this coyote is my Fury.
This is the coyote getting closer.
This is a picture of the coyote about 55 yards straight down the ridge below me. The coyote stopped right after I took this picture so I set down my camera and grabbed my shotgun.
The 1-1/2 oz load of Heavyweight #2 shot just flattened the coyote, it never moved a muscle.
Here is jp7mag with coyote number 3.
On the 6th & 7th stands we blanked.
Stand #8 I had my shotgun and jp7mag was above me on a ridge with his 243 Win. After calling for about 15 minutes I heard jp7mag's rifle fire and I heard the bullet hit meat. He made a pretty long shot on a coyote that I didn't see down in the bottom of the canyon.
Here is coyote #4 taken on stand #8.
The wind started to pick up speed and it wasn't blowing in the direction that we wanted. We blanked on stands #9 through #12.
We decided we were going to make one more stand and we both took our rifles on this last stand. jp7mag was watching to our left and I was watching to the right.
At around the 12 minute mark I heard jp7mag shoot and heard the bullet connect. It was another great shot on a coyote that was close to 300 yards away.
Here is jp7mag with our 5th and final coyote for the day.
