Two more coyotes from around the cattle!

Post by derbyacresbob »

Yesterday I went back to the ranch where the cows are dropping calves right now.

I didn't see a coyote on the first 6 stands.

On stand 7 everything was perfect, a canyon with lots of ridges dropping down into it from both sides. The wind was coming up the canyon to me and the sun was at my back.

This was one of the few stands that I make where the coyote comes in from where I think it should come in from. About 12 minutes into the stand a female coyote walks under the fence in the canyon bottom and stops to look at my Foxpro Fury. The coyote was 150 yards away and I didn't have to move my 243 Win with a bi-pod on it very far to get on the coyote.

In this picture you can see the canyon bottom with the fence line going across it. The coyote walked under that fence in the bottom of the canyon.

On the next stand I was laying prone with my rifle again on a ridge top. There was some rocks and trees to my right and no cover on my left so I thought I would see a coyote or coyotes coming from the area with some cover on my right.

I had Bay Bee Cottontail going for about 7 minutes when I looked to my left and saw a coyote standing on the bare hill side about 75 yards away from me. So I moved my rifle to the left while the coyote was staring at my Foxpro Fury. My 243 Win put the coyote down hard.

This coyote was a male.

I started calling at first light in the morning and didn't have any action until after 10:30 am but it was still a great day.
