I have extremely bad eyesight including astigmatism. Aimpoint dots are pretty starred out at all levels to my eyes. Other dots don't if turned down low enough. That's how I get by with the Burris FF3.

Red dots that have filtered dot shapes do not star out with me. Most such dots are the cheap ones. So, if a cheap dot will hold up, it is a better buy for my use. I can vouch for Sightmark and the Fieldsport shown in the linked article. I have not tried any cheap dots with turkey loads yet. For better ones which should hold up on shotguns, Holosun and Leupold appear to be it.
